Finding your size. Measure your head circumference with a tape measure, roughly a finger's width above your eyebrows and around the widest point at the back. Measure with the hairstyle you also wear under the helmet: a tight braid or a hairnet gives a different circumference than loose hair. If you fall between two sizes, take the shell that fits and let the liner do the rest.

Fitting. A well-fitting helmet sits evenly around your head, does not press anywhere in particular and does not move when you bend your head forward with the chin strap open. If it feels sharper at one point than elsewhere, the liner size or liner shape is usually the issue, not the shell.

Care. After intensive periods, take the liner out and wash it at 30°C. Let it air dry, not on a radiator and not in the tumble dryer. Wipe the matt shell with a soft, slightly damp cloth; leave out aggressive cleaners and solvents, as these attack the finish and the crystal fabric.

Storage. Keep the helmet dry and out of direct sunlight, and carry it in a helmet bag so the trim and the crystal top do not rub against other equipment. The Maddelin range includes matching helmet bags and a protective backpack.

After a fall. A helmet that has taken an impact should be checked or replaced. Damage to the inner shell is often not visible from the outside. Samshield provides a check-up and repair service for this, which you can arrange through us.

This version suits riders who want a matt, understated helmet with a warm gold accent and a discreet crystal shine. It is suitable for dressage, jumping, eventing and ordinary training.

Within our Samshield range, choose a different version if you are after a Pink Gold finish, if you prefer a high gloss shell over a matt one, or if you want a fully black-on-black look without metallic accents. If you want a choice of several sizes or a second colour alongside black, look at the standard version of the Shadowmatt model, which comes in a wider size range.

Put the helmet on with the chin strap open and bend forward: it should fit evenly, press nowhere and not move. If you feel one sharper pressure point, it is usually the liner size or shape. Wash the memory foam liner at 30°C and let it air dry, not on a radiator or in the tumble dryer.

Wipe the matt shell with a slightly damp, soft cloth, without harsh cleaners or solvents. Carry the helmet in a helmet bag. After a fall, have it checked or replace it.

Which size do I take and how do I measure my head?

Which safety standard does this helmet have?
The helmet is CE certified. The exact certification is stated on the label inside the helmet itself. If you compete, check the current list of accepted standards with the FEI or with your own federation, as those requirements are tightening.

What do I do after a fall?
Have the helmet checked or replace it. The inner shell may have absorbed energy without anything showing on the outside. Samshield has a check-up and repair service you can turn to.
