Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The LeMieux Young Rider Brilliance Livvy is a white short-sleeved competition shirt for young riders, from the Brilliance line with crystal details. It is made of a very soft stretch fabric and fastens at the front with a zip set with crystals. The sleeves and the back panel are laser-cut lace, so that air can pass through the shirt there.

About this competition shirt

At LeMieux, Brilliance is the line with hotfix crystals: stones set onto the fabric with heat rather than sewn on. On this shirt they appear as a decorative detail and on the zip at the front. It is the most outspoken of the four LeMieux children's shirts in our assortment, and anyone who would rather have a quiet white shirt is better off looking at another model.

The fabric is a very soft stretch fabric. You notice that in the saddle: the shirt follows the movement of the shoulders instead of pulling when your child brings the hands forward. The fastening is a zip at the front, not a button fastening; that is quicker and a child can manage it alone.

The technical point lies in the sleeves and the back. These are made in fine laser-cut lace: a pattern cut out of the fabric with a laser, leaving small openings in it. Air can pass through the shirt there, and at the same time the pattern gives the shirt its look. Under a closed show jacket you see nothing of it; without a jacket it is exactly the detail that catches the eye.

Bear in mind what that means in use. Lace with openings is more vulnerable than a closed weave: it catches more easily on a buckle or a nail, and it wants to be washed inside out. Hotfix crystals must not go in the tumble dryer, nor under a hot iron. It is besides a thin short-sleeved shirt, so not a warm layer for winter. LeMieux does not publish a fibre composition for this model, and the manufacturer states neither a weight nor a country of manufacture.

This shirt comes into its own best when worn without a jacket or under an open jacket: the lace sleeves and the crystals on the zip are then visible. Under a closed show jacket an ordinary white shirt is what remains, which is no disadvantage for the test itself. Combine it with a white stock or tie and with breeches from the LeMieux Young Rider line. Wash the shirt inside out at thirty degrees with similar colours and a non-biological detergent, without bleach and without dry cleaning. Let it air dry, do not lay it on a radiator and do not use the tumble dryer. Iron at a low temperature, away from the logo and away from the stones.

Choose the Livvy for a young rider who likes to stand out at a competition and who wants a shirt that gives with the movement. It suits dressage, showjumping and the dressage test of an eventing competition, where short sleeves are permitted, and it suits showing classes as well. If you want a quieter white shirt with mesh and a magnetic fastening instead of crystals and lace, the LeMieux Eva competition shirt is the choice. For the smallest sizes, from three years, take the LeMieux Mini Bonnie competition shirt. If a rider is in women's sizes, the LeMieux Sophia competition shirt suits better.

Put the shirt on, close the zip at the front and put on a white tie or stock for a test. You wear it on its own on warm days or under a show jacket. LeMieux asks you to wash the shirt inside out at thirty degrees, with similar colours and a non-biological detergent, without bleach and without dry cleaning. Let it air dry away from a heat source, do not use the tumble dryer and iron at a low temperature away from the logo.

What is this shirt made of?

LeMieux calls the main fabric a very soft stretch fabric, but does not publish a fibre composition with percentages for this model. As soon as the manufacturer supplies it, it will appear in the technical features.

What is laser-cut lace?

A pattern cut out of the fabric with a laser, so that fine openings appear. On this shirt those openings are in the sleeves and in the back panel, which lets air pass through the shirt.

Do the crystals come off in the wash?

They are hotfix stones, set onto the fabric with heat. LeMieux therefore asks you to wash inside out at thirty degrees, not to dry in the tumble dryer or on a heat source, and to iron at a low temperature away from the logo.

How does this shirt fasten?

With a zip at the front, set with crystals. There are no buttons or press studs.

Is this shirt suitable for an official test?

It is plain white, and white is the colour asked for in most classes. In showjumping, FEI Jumping Rules article 207.2.3 asks for a white collar, a white tie, stock or choker and, with long sleeves, white cuffs; short sleeves are permitted there and for children and pony riders the whole shirt must be white. The Belgian dressage rules ask for a white shirt and, without a jacket, sleeves that cover at least the shoulders. For logos and trim, FEI General Regulations article 135 applies. Rules differ by federation, by discipline, by level and by country and change regularly, so check the current rules of your own federation.

Which sizes are there at Maddelin?

122-128 (7-8 years) and 134-140 (9-10 years). LeMieux also carries 146-152 and 158-164, but those are not in our range.

Is this shirt warm enough for winter?

No. It is a thin short-sleeved shirt with openings in the sleeves and back. In the cold months you put a gilet or a jacket over it.
