Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The BR Sunderland bridle is a snaffle bridle in supple Italian leather with a removable T-flash strap, an anatomically shaped headpiece and a wide chin pad. With the flash strap fitted you ride with a combined noseband; without it you are left with a classic bridle. For riders who want one bridle to cover several situations. Reins are not included.

About this bridle

The most striking thing about the Sunderland is the T-flash strap, because it comes off. Leave it on and you ride with a combined noseband: a noseband with a flash strap, which keeps everything stable. Take it off and you are left with a classic bridle and a plain noseband. That is useful when your horse needs something different at various stages of his training, or when you want to use the same bridle for sharper schooling work and for quiet hacks.

The headpiece is anatomically shaped and softly padded. It is cut so that more room is left behind the ears, which spreads the weight of the bridle over a wider area and keeps your horse freer through his head. In daily dressage work or on longer sessions, that is the kind of detail that settles a horse.

The noseband has a square raised finish: the top of the strap is built up, creating a straight, slightly domed edge. That gives the noseband more body and a classic line without having to be any wider. Subtle decorative stitching runs neatly alongside it.

Under the chin sits a wide, softly padded chin pad. It spreads the pressure of the flash strap over a larger area instead of a narrow band, which noticeably improves wearing comfort. The browband is finished with matching decorative details in the same style, so the bridle stays balanced as a whole, and the fine contrast stitching carries on across the straps.

The leather is supple Italian leather. It feels good in the hand from the start, stays smart under intensive use and holds its shape for a long time with normal care. You choose between Black/Silver and Oak/Silver, in sizes Cob and Full. Reins are not part of the set.

Full fits most warmbloods, Cob the finer or shorter heads. If in doubt, measure the noseband and headpiece of your current bridle and compare the lengths; that tells you more than your horse's height.

If you ride with the flash strap on, sit the noseband about two fingers below the cheekbone, leaving two fingers of room to the nasal bone. The flash strap sits in the chin groove and stays looser than the noseband. If you leave it off, check whether the noseband on its own still sits stably enough; some horses do need that extra support.

Store the T-flash strap together with the bridle so you can find it again later. For the leather: wipe away sweat and sand after every ride with a damp cloth, let the bridle dry at room temperature and treat it regularly with leather soap and leather balm. Do not forget the chin pad, as that is where most of the sweat collects.

For riders who want one smart bridle that can grow with their horse. Thanks to the removable flash strap it works for dressage schooling, daily training and competition days, and its classic finish suits just about any turnout.

If you know you always ride with a flash strap, a model with a permanently fitted flash strap is simpler to use. If you are looking instead for a distinctly decorative bridle with crystals, a model with a decorated browband from our range is the better place to look. And if your horse needs a grackle or a drop noseband, choose a model with that noseband straight away.

The T-flash strap is removable. If you ride with it, sit the noseband about two fingers below the cheekbone, with two fingers of room to the nasal bone, and keep the flash strap in the chin groove looser than the noseband. Without it, check that the noseband on its own still sits stably enough.
