Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Eventa Pro Grip is a 16 mm rubber grip rein with a nylon insert, five leather hand stops and a leather finish at the bit. It is meant for riders who want grip where the hand lies, but who want the leather of their bridle to carry on at the bit. Supplied in size Full, in Black and in Oak, each time with silver-coloured fittings.

About these reins

The rubber grip pattern gives extra hold, exactly where you need it. That pattern is not a system with a name of its own: it is the structure in the rubber itself. Inside the rein there is a nylon insert, which keeps the reins in shape and pleasant to hold while riding. The composition is rubber, nylon and leather.

The five leather hand stops give your hand position something to hold on to. That is the distinction from the plain Eventa rubber rein from the same house: that one has rein stops for the martingale ring, this one has hand stops for your hand. Here the martingale stops are supplied separately, as diamond-shaped leather BR martingale stops.

At the bit the reins are finished with Italian leather and concealed fastenings, which gives a tidy finish. The round, silver-coloured buckles go well with that. At a width of 16 mm the reins sit finely in the hand, while still feeling sturdy enough for daily use.

In showjumping you may use at most two pairs of reins and the reins must be attached to the bit or directly to the bridle; if you use a martingale, there should be only one martingale stop per rein in the competition arena, and it belongs between the bit and the martingale ring. From 1 February 2027 showjumping adds the provision that reins must be free of loops or hand attachments and that rein stops may not protrude by more than 1 cm. What applies at your competition is determined by the rules of your own discipline and federation, and the FEI requirements do not apply at national competitions: if in doubt, check in advance with your federation or the organiser.

This rein suits riders who work with the same pair every day: jumping sessions, cross-country and flatwork in turn. The five hand stops help you make your rein length repeatable, and the leather finish at the bit does not look out of place on a leather bridle.

If you ride with a running martingale, use the leather martingale stops supplied and set them between the bit and the martingale ring. For the leather parts at the bit no care instruction is given: the manufacturer does not specify this. Treat them as you treat the rest of your leather tack and leave the rubber alone.

Choose this rein when you want grip in combination with leather, in size Full, and when you work with hand stops rather than with rein stops. For showjumping, eventing and daily schooling that is a sound combination.

If you ride with a running martingale and want stops fixed on the rein rather than supplied separately, the Eventa rubber rein with rein stops is the more logical choice. If you want no leather at all, the Biothane Cinderford reins are the alternative, with seven hand stops and 15 mm. If you are looking for a wider rein, the 19 mm Web Grip reins are more suitable; and if you want leather with only a rubber inner side, that is the leather anti-slip reins. Finally, for a Shetland pony you take the 13 mm rein in size Shetland.

Attach the reins at the bit with the concealed fastenings and check that both fastenings are closed before you mount. If you ride with a running martingale, pass the ring over the rein and set one of the leather martingale stops supplied between the bit and the ring, left and right alike. For the leather part no care instruction is given: the manufacturer does not specify this. Treat it as you treat the rest of your leather tack and keep the rubber dry.
