Veredus TRPro H5 Tendon Boots

About these tendon boots

A working model, not a competition model. Veredus is clear about this itself: this boot was designed specifically for training at home. That explains every choice in the design. It builds up little thickness and little weight, it is waterproof and it cleans easily. So you use it for the daily work in the arena or the outdoor school, not as a course boot for the big days.

How it is built. The outer shell is in Polyflex, Veredus's elastic polyurethane. Elastic here means literally that the shell bends with the leg instead of staying rigid: it spreads a knock and follows the movement of the leg at the same time. The base is neoprene combined with lycra, with a lycra binding around the edge that Veredus states as hard-wearing. That binding is the part that suffers first in daily use, so it is not a detail.

The five-centimetre straps. This is what sets the TRPro H5 apart in practice. The elastic straps are 5 cm deep, so the tension is spread over a broad surface rather than in a narrow line. Veredus adds that these broad straps keep their grip and do not deteriorate on contact with sand, soil or mud. Anyone who works in a sand arena every day knows how quickly a narrow strap loses its hold. The quick-release tip makes putting them on and taking them off straightforward.

What you should not expect of it. A thin, elastic model takes a hard knock less broadly than a boot with a rigid carbon shell and a gel film. That is a deliberate trade-off by the manufacturer: light and comfortable for daily work instead of as much shell as possible. If you jump big fences or ride courses, a heavier model within the Veredus range is the right choice. Beyond that, this is a front-leg model: behind, a fetlock boot with a shorter shell belongs.

Competition and dressage. The current international showjumping rules set no requirements for the shape of tendon boots on the front legs. Only the weight is capped: no more than 500 grams per leg in total, including when wet. Veredus states no weight per boot, although it does describe the model as particularly light. In the international dressage competition arena, boots are not permitted and have to come off before you enter the space around the arena; for training and warming up that is no problem.
