Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.
Rugs
How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.
Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.
The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information
The Trolle Mid Rise are women's breeches from Trolle Projects' Knee Grip collection, made in Italy. The waist sits mid to high, the breeches have front pockets and, at the bottom of the leg, a sock cuff with a jacquard logo. The fabric is a technical jersey with four-way stretch. Maddelin stocks the model in navy and sand, for training and everyday riding.
About these breeches
Trolle Projects itself calls this model ‘High Waist Breeches with Knee Grip with pocket’. At Maddelin it is listed as the Trolle Mid Rise, because Trolle describes the waist height as mid/high; elsewhere on the same page, Trolle refers to a high-rise waist. The breeches have an elastic waistband and ergonomic seams, and Trolle calls the fit ‘tight, performance-oriented’: close-fitting.
Knee Grip with injected silicone
Trolle places the model in its Knee Grip collection. The grip is silicone injected into the fabric. With Knee Grip, the grip sits at the knee. In its product description, however, Trolle mentions silicone grip on the seat and inner knee; you can see on the breeches themselves whether there is grip on the seat too.
Italian jersey
The breeches are made in Italy from a technical jersey with four-way stretch, which Trolle sells under the name Sensitive®. According to Trolle, the fabric is supple, breathable and quick-drying. The fibre composition is 72% polyamide and 28% elastane.
Pockets, sock cuff and details
There are two pockets at the front. At the bottom, the leg finishes in a polyamide sock cuff with a jacquard logo, which Trolle designed for a seamless finish. The logo is embossed on the fabric, and the buttons carry an engraved logo.
Navy and sand
Maddelin stocks the Mid Rise in navy, in sizes S, M and L, and in sand, in sizes XS, S and M. Both colours are meant for training and everyday riding. For competitions, the rules ask for white breeches or, depending on the federation and discipline, off-white or light fawn; whether sand counts as light fawn is not set out in the rules; check with your federation or the organiser beforehand. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly: check your federation's current rules.
Sizes
Trolle uses Italian sizes; at Maddelin these run from IT 38 to IT 44. Trolle notes that its Italian sizes can come up slightly smaller than European sizes. You can read more about this in the fit section.
Mid Rise or Athletic?
The Trolle Athletic are the other Trolle model at Maddelin. They come with Full Grip or Knee Grip and are available in white, among other colours. In the Knee Grip version, the Athletic have side pockets, whereas the Mid Rise have front pockets. Choose the Mid Rise for Knee Grip in navy or sand.
Trolle does not publish washing instructions for this model; follow the care label.
