Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Trolle Aero Competition Polo is the simplest competition polo in Trolle Projects' Aero series: technical jersey, short sleeves and a sealed zip at the front, without extra knitted panels. A polo for men who want something light and quick-drying under their show jacket, without technical frills. At Maddelin in white, in sizes XS to L.

About this competition polo

Trolle calls this model the Aero Male Competition Polo. It is a short-sleeve polo, made from technical jersey which the brand describes as breathable and quick-drying. At the front there is a sealed zip with a printed detail. As the fabric used, Trolle names Sensitive Fabrics.

This is the base version of the Aero polo. Where the Balance version has a knitted Xdry panel and a back panel with Balance technology, this polo keeps to one fabric across the whole garment. That makes it simpler in build and, in practice, less openly technical. If those panels matter little to you, you get the same fabric and the same cut here.

The composition Trolle states appears under the technical details; the knitted section is listed separately. Reckon on a thin, close-fitting polo. That is the intention: it has to lie flat under a jacket and dry quickly. Warm it is not, so plan an extra layer for cold days.

About competition use, Trolle itself says nothing. What is established: in showjumping, FEI Jumping Rules article 207.2.3 requires a white collar and a white tie, stock or choker, and short sleeves are permitted. For children and pony riders the whole shirt must be white. In dressage there is no FEI rule about the shirt; article 431 asks only for a white or off-white stock or tie. In Belgium a white shirt is prescribed. Always check the current rulebook of your own federation, because the rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country.

The limitations: the cut is a slim fit in Italian sizing and runs, according to Trolle, smaller than European sizes, white stays sensitive to stains, and the brand publishes no washing instructions.

Use this polo at shows and while warming up in the classes where a white collar is asked for, and pair it with a white tie or stock if your rulebook calls for one. Trolle describes the sizing as Italian and smaller than European and advises a size up; factor that into your choice, certainly if you wear the polo over a base layer. Because Trolle publishes no washing instructions, follow the label in the polo. Wash it inside out on a low programme, without fabric softener, and let it air-dry. After riding, hang it up to dry instead of leaving it in your bag.

Choose this polo if you want a light white short-sleeve competition polo and have no need for extra knitted panels. If you do want the knitted Xdry panel and the back panel with Balance technology, the Trolle Aero Balance men's competition shirt is the version for that, although Maddelin carries that one only in S and M. If you need long sleeves, you are better off looking at the Boss Equestrian Elton long-sleeve men's competition shirt or the Cavalleria Toscana Guibert long-sleeve men's shirt. And for anyone who wants a roomier cut, this slim fit in Italian sizing will most likely be too narrow.

Maddelin carries this version in four sizes; because Trolle says its sizing runs smaller than European sizes, try the polo on before you count on it for a show. Wear it next to the skin, because the microfibre jersey with elastane lies flat under a jacket. Trolle gives no wash symbols for this model, so read the label. What spares the knit and the elastane: cool, short and without fabric softener, then left to air-dry.

What is this polo made of?

Trolle states: 75% polyamide microfibre and 25% elastane (LYCRA), and for the knitted section 87% elastane and 13% polyamide.

How do I wash this polo?

Follow the label in the polo; Trolle publishes no washing instructions for this model. Washing inside out on a low programme, without fabric softener and without a tumble dryer, is the safest habit with technical riding shirts.

What is the difference from the Trolle Aero Balance polo?

The Balance version has a knitted Xdry panel and a back panel with integrated Balance technology. This polo does not have those panels and is simpler in build.

Which size should I take?

Trolle describes the sizing as Italian and smaller than European and advises taking a size up. At Maddelin, XS, S, M and L are available, with the EU and IT equivalent alongside each size.

May I wear short sleeves at a show?

In showjumping, FEI Jumping Rules article 207.2.3 permits short sleeves, including with a jacket, and requires a white collar and a white tie, stock or choker. In dressage the FEI lays down nothing about sleeve length; the Belgian rules require that without a jacket the sleeves cover at least the shoulders. Check with your own federation.

Is this polo suitable if the ground jury allows riding without a jacket?

In very warm weather the ground jury may allow it. In showjumping the shirt must then have sleeves; sleeveless is ruled out. Short sleeves are enough, and the colour and collar requirements still apply.
