Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Looking for riding leggings in size 128? These Tommy Hilfiger Devon leggings in Desert Sky come in size 128 (age 8). They are leggings without a zip or buttons, with full grip silicone on the seat and the inside of the legs. Made for young riders who take lessons, school their pony or like to help out at the yard.

About these leggings

Leggings have no zip or button for your child to learn to fasten with cold fingers: pull them on, straighten them and you are done. That makes the Devon handy for young riders who get changed by themselves before a lesson. As leggings, they are made from a stretchy fabric that moves with them when rising to the trot and in jumping position.

The grip covers the seat and continues along the inside of the legs. That is what we call full grip. On a knee grip model, the silicone sits only on the inside of the knee. Full grip gives grip over a larger area; whether your child likes that is something they will mostly notice in the saddle.

The leggings have a phone pocket, so a phone can come along to the yard or on a hack without having to go in a jacket pocket.

Is 128 the right size? The age in brackets is a guideline, because eight-year-olds vary widely in height. Measure your child and compare the measurements with the Tommy Hilfiger Equestrian size chart. We cannot confirm how this model comes up; if in doubt, contact the shop.

We are not aware of any washing instructions for these leggings beyond what is on the care label, so follow that label. For breeches with silicone grip, the tumble dryer is usually ruled out; if in doubt, let the leggings air dry.

How do I wash these leggings?
Follow the care label. If in doubt, air dry the leggings rather than putting them in the tumble dryer, as is usual for breeches with silicone grip.

Do these leggings have a zip or a button?
No. That is exactly the difference with riding breeches, which do have a fastening. You pull the Devon on like ordinary leggings.

What exactly is full grip?
Silicone grip over the seat and along the inside of the legs. With knee grip, the grip sits only on the inside of the knee.

Can my child jump in these leggings?
