Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Tommy Hilfiger Devon Riding Leggings in Burgundy are riding leggings for young riders aged roughly 8 to 12. They have full grip silicone on the seat and the inside of the legs, a stretchy fabric with 22% spandex and a phone pocket. No zip or buttons, for schooling, lessons and the work around your pony or horse.

About these leggings

Burgundy is a wine-red colour: a bold choice next to the classic white, beige and black. At competitions white and beige are the usual colours, so this version is mainly a pair of leggings for schooling, lessons and hacking.

Tommy Hilfiger makes the Devon from 78% polyester and 22% spandex and describes the fabric as shape-retaining. That amount of spandex means the leggings stretch where your child moves: at the knees with short stirrups, over the seat when rising to the trot.

The silicone runs over the entire seat and along the inside of the legs; that is full grip. Full grip is not only for dressage riders. Which grip type your child chooses depends on what feels comfortable in the saddle, not on the discipline.

Handy for letting someone know they can be picked up after the lesson: the phone sits in the phone pocket of the leggings, not in a loose jacket pocket.

The Burgundy version is available in size 128 (age 8), 140 (age 10) and 152 (age 12). Do not choose on age alone: measure your child and compare with the Tommy Hilfiger Equestrian size chart. How the model comes up has not been confirmed to us. If you are unsure between two sizes, call or email the shop.

We do not have separate washing instructions for the Devon, so follow the care label. If in doubt, let the leggings air dry: for breeches with silicone grip, the brands that publish care instructions rule out the tumble dryer.

Wine-red leggings are easy to pair with a top in white, grey or navy.

Choose the Devon in Burgundy if your child wants leggings for lessons, schooling and hacking, with grip over the whole seat and a colour that stands apart from classic white and black.

For a competition where white or beige is customary, or if your child wants riding breeches with a fastening, have a look at the riding breeches in our kids' range. A knee grip model suits riders who only want to feel grip at the knee.

The Devon has no fastening: your child pulls them on like ordinary leggings and is ready in no time. The silicone full grip runs across the seat and along the inside of the legs. The phone goes in the leggings' phone pocket.
