Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Tommy Hilfiger Devon is a pair of full grip silicone riding leggings for young riders, shown here in the colour Desert Sky. They pull on without a zip or buttons, and the grip runs over the seat and the inside of the legs. Leggings for lessons, schooling and the everyday hours at the yard, in sizes 128, 140 and 152.

About these leggings

The Devon comes from the Young Rider line by Tommy Hilfiger Equestrian. These are leggings rather than classic riding breeches: there is no fastening, so your child can pull them on and off in one go. That is handy for young riders who change by themselves at the yard or have to rush to a lesson after school.

The fabric is 78% polyester and 22% spandex. That share of spandex gives the leggings their stretch, so they move with your child when rising to the trot, riding in jumping position or bending down to pick out a hoof. Tommy Hilfiger also describes the material as shape-retaining: the fabric is made to hold its shape.

The full grip silicone covers the seat and runs along the inside of the legs. That is how it differs from a knee grip model, where the silicone sits only on the inside of the knee. With full grip you feel the grip over a larger part of the saddle. Which grip type your child prefers is mostly a matter of feel; it says nothing about the discipline you ride.

The leggings have an integrated phone pocket. A smartphone stays close to hand on a hack or while working at the yard, without needing a jacket with pockets.

Desert Sky is the colour name Tommy Hilfiger gives this version; the product photos show you how the colour looks. At Maddelin you will also find the same model in Burgundy.

The Devon in Desert Sky comes in size 128 (age 8), 140 (age 10) and 152 (age 12). The age in brackets is a guideline, not a measurement: children of the same age vary widely in height. We cannot say for certain how the fit comes up. So measure your child, compare with the Tommy Hilfiger Equestrian size chart and feel free to contact the shop if you are unsure between two sizes.

For care, follow the care label in the leggings; we are not aware of separate washing instructions for the Devon. Many breeches with silicone grip should not go in the tumble dryer. Check the label to see what applies here and, if in doubt, let the leggings air dry.

Choose the Devon for a child of roughly 8 to 12 who mostly schools, takes lessons or spends a lot of time at the yard, and who likes to feel grip over the whole seat. The model carries no discipline label: whether your child rides dressage, show jumping or hacks out, the grip type comes down to preference.

Looking for the classic build of riding breeches with a fastening, for example for a competition where white or beige is customary? Then have a look at the riding breeches in our kids' range. If your child would rather have grip at the knee only, a knee grip model is a better fit.

The Devon has no zip or buttons: your child pulls them on and off in one go. The silicone full grip runs across the seat and the inside of the legs. The integrated phone pocket keeps a smartphone to hand at the yard or on a hack.

No separate care instructions are known: follow the care label. Many breeches with silicone grip must not go in the tumble dryer, so if in doubt, let the leggings dry naturally.
