Measure the circumference of the nose about two fingers below the cheekbone, and the length of the cheekpiece from the corner of the mouth to behind the ears. If you fall between two sizes, take the larger one: leather stretches slightly, and it cannot be made shorter.

Take your time laying everything out flat the first time you bridle up. The anatomic headpiece only works as intended if it sits symmetrically behind the ears and is not pulled to one side by unevenly adjusted cheekpieces. Count the holes on the left and the right. Adjust the noseband so that you can still fit two fingers underneath.

A fixed routine is enough for maintenance. Wipe off sweat and sand after work with a damp cloth, let the leather dry at room temperature and never near a heater. Clean with saddle soap and apply a light coat of leather grease a few times a year, especially on the inside of the straps. That keeps the leather supple and stops the straps drying out along the folds.
