Set both straps to the same hole left and right, so the shells sit at the same height. After a few minutes of walking, check that the boot is not slipping down; with an elastic fastening you notice that quickly. Rinse sand off the shell and out of the ventilation holes after work, because sand that stays in the holes ends up against the skin on the next ride. Kentucky recommends washing the boots in a wash bag at 30 °C, so the shell does not scratch against the drum, and keeping them out of the tumble dryer. Choose this model if you jump, or train a lot with jumping in mind, and want a sturdy shell with as much airflow as possible, combined with a flat lining that takes up little room. The elastic fastening suits riders who want them on and off quickly and would rather not have hook-and-loop that fills up with sand. If you ride dressage, this stays training kit: in the international dressage arena, boots are not permitted and they must come off before the space around the arena. Slide the boot over the leg with the hard shell at the back over the tendon and the rubber insert at the height of the flex zone. Lay the two elastic straps on the outside of the leg and hook each strap on a hole that feels firm without pinching; the same setting left and right. After a few minutes of walking, check that nothing is slipping. After use, rinse sand out of the ventilation holes and wash the boots at 30 °C in a wash bag, without the tumble dryer.

What does "Bamboo Elastic" in the name mean?

Two things. "Bamboo" refers to the bamboo insert with which Kentucky reinforces the shell at tendon height. "Elastic" refers to the fastening system: two elastic straps instead of hook-and-loop.

What is the difference with the vegan wool version?

The shell, the bamboo insert, the ventilation and the fastening are identical. Only the lining differs: an open 3D Spacer fabric here, a soft vegan wool lining on the other model. So you choose on lining, not on protection.

Are they suitable for the hind legs?

No, this shape is made for the front legs. On the hind legs you use fetlock boots, which have a different shape and, in international showjumping classes, have to meet requirements of their own.

How do I wash them?

In the machine at 30 °C, preferably in a wash bag so the shell does not scratch. Not in the tumble dryer. Kentucky also has its own cleaner for plastic boots.

May I use them in competition?

At international showjumping events there are no requirements as to the shape of front boots, only a limit of 500 grams for everything that sits on one leg together. In international dressage, boots are not permitted in the arena and they must come off before the space around it. In eventing: not in the dressage test, the jumping rules in the jumping phase, permitted on the cross-country course. There is no FEI inspection and no list of brands; the official on the ground decides.

Which size do I choose?

Kentucky makes this model in four sizes and we stock three of them. Measure the circumference of the lower leg and compare it with Kentucky's size guide. If you fall between two sizes, try the boots on first.

Do they scratch easily?

A glossy TPU shell keeps the marks of sand and grit. That is cosmetic and says nothing about the strength of the shell.
