Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

The Veredus Super Sheen shine and detangling spray comes here in the large sizes: 3 L and 5 L. These volumes are meant for yards where several horses are groomed every day and a small bottle empties too quickly. Veredus states that the mane and tail stay soft, silky and tangle-free for around 15 days.

About this shine and detangling spray

Super Sheen, from the Veredus BioCare Line, does two jobs at once: it gives the coat and the long hair a shine, and it detangles. According to Veredus the lotion forms a protective film that makes the hair and coat water-, dust- and dirt-repellent. It does not feel greasy and, the brand says, it significantly reduces grooming time. You do not rinse it out and there is no need to wash the horse first.

In a yard with several horses, that rate of use is the reason to go for 3 L or 5 L. You top up a smaller working bottle instead of opening a new one every week, and you keep one product for every horse. Veredus does not state whether a spray head is supplied with the large sizes, so count on needing a clean spray bottle of your own.

Veredus offers Super Sheen in four sizes: 500 ml, 1 L, 3 L and 5 L. This page holds the 3 L and the 5 L. One Veredus warning applies to the large sizes as well: avoid the saddle area. The coat becomes slippery there, which can let the saddle shift or slide. Working from a 3 or 5 L container and a spray bottle makes it easy to apply more generously than from a small bottle, so spray where you mean to.

Decant the product into a clean spray bottle and label it with the product name and the size. Spray from around 30 cm, or put some on a soft cloth when you want to work on one area. Let it dry briefly, then brush in the direction of the hair.

If you are doing several horses in a row, two bottles save time: one for mane and tail, one for the coat. That keeps use in check and keeps the saddle area dry. Avoid that area deliberately, because Veredus warns that the coat becomes slippery there and the saddle can slide.

Veredus gives no storage advice and no ingredient list for Super Sheen. Keep the container closed, away from frost and out of the sun, and only decant what you will use within a few weeks.
