Oil the blade regularly while clipping, roughly every ten minutes, and certainly before you start and when you stop. The oil lets the top and bottom blade run smoothly over each other and carries heat away; a blade running dry soon gets hot and loses its cut faster. Brush the hair out of the teeth in between and wipe the blade dry before you put it away.

For blade pressure, follow the instructions for your machine: too loose gives an uneven cut and pulls at the hair, too tight causes extra heat and wear. If the cut becomes slow or leaves lines, it is time to have it sharpened. Maddelin sharpens blades of all brands and for all machines. Choose the A2C/AC Close if you want to clip a horse fully and short with a Lister machine, without going all the way to the shortest. The difference with the A2F/AC Fine is small, and which of the two you prefer mainly depends on how tight you want the clip to look and how often you are willing to clip again.

If you want to go shorter, the A2S/AC Surgical (1.0 mm) and the A2SS/AC Super Surgical (0.5 mm) are the next steps. If you want to leave clearly more coat, you end up with the A2/AC Medium (2.5 mm). On a dirty or muddy coat the CA2/AC Coarse with its 18 teeth gets on more easily, even though the cutting height is the same as the Medium's.

You screw the top and bottom blade on together and set the tension according to your machine's instructions: too loose pulls at the hair, too tight adds heat and wear. Oil the blade before you start, roughly every ten minutes while clipping and when you stop. Brush the hair out of the teeth as you go and store the blade dry. If the cut turns slow or streaky, it is time for sharpening; hand the blade in properly cleaned.

Will this fit my clipper?
The blades of the Lister A series fit the Lister Star, Fusion, Eclipse, Liberty and Legend. If your machine is not listed, get in touch with us before you order. We will then check together which blade system your machine uses, because screw-on blades and snap-on blade sets are not interchangeable.

How much coat does this blade leave?
1.2 mm. That is short, with a fraction more coat than a 1.0 mm blade.

What is the difference with the A2F/AC Fine?
The Fine leaves 1.4 mm, the Close 1.2 mm. So the Close clips slightly shorter. Width and tooth count are the same for both.

Do I have to clip more often than with a medium blade?
Yes, usually. The shorter you clip, the sooner regrowth shows. Compared with a 1.0 mm blade, 1.2 mm normally buys you a little longer between clips.

Do I get the top and bottom blade together?
Yes, A series blades are supplied as a set. Top and bottom blade are matched to each other and used together.

Can I have this blade sharpened?
Yes. Maddelin sharpens blades of all brands and for all machines. Bring them in cleaned; for dirty blades a surcharge is added. Allow a waiting time of one to two weeks.

How often should I apply oil?
Roughly every ten minutes of clipping, and each time before and after use. Oil keeps the blades cool and lets them run smoothly over each other.

Why does my blade get hot while clipping?
Heat comes from the friction between the top and bottom blade and from hair caught between the teeth. Regular oiling, brushing out in between and correct blade pressure keep the temperature under control.
