Lubricate the blade regularly while clipping, roughly every ten minutes, and certainly before you start and when you stop. The oil lets top blade and bottom blade run smoothly across each other and carries heat away; a blade running dry gets hot quickly and loses its cut sooner. Brush the hair out of the teeth in between and wipe the blade dry before you put it away.

For blade tension, follow the instructions for your clipper: too loose gives an uneven cut and pulls at the hair, too tight causes extra heat and wear. Is the cut becoming slow or leaving tracks? Choose the A2S/AC Surgical if you want a very short clipping result with a Lister clipper, for example for detail work or for a tight finish where a medium blade leaves too much coat.

Want to leave more coat standing? Then the A2F/AC Fine (1.4 mm) or the A2/AC Medium (2.5 mm) are the more obvious options. Dealing with a dirty or muddy coat? The CA2/AC Coarse (2.5 mm, 18 teeth) usually works more easily because its teeth are set further apart. And if you want to go shorter still than 1.0 mm, the A2SS/AC Super Surgical (0.5 mm) is the blade you are after.

Screw the top and bottom blade onto the clipper together and set the tension according to your machine's instructions. Does this fit my clipper?

How much coat does this blade leave?
1.0 mm. That is very short within the Lister A series.

What does Surgical mean at Lister?
It is the name Lister gives this type of blade within the A series. In practice it stands for the very short cutting height of 1.0 mm.

What is the difference with the A2F/AC Fine?
The Fine leaves 1.4 mm, the Surgical 1.0 mm. Otherwise both come from the same A series, with the same width of 75 mm and the same number of teeth.

Do I get the top blade and bottom blade together?
Yes, the blades of the A series are supplied as a set. Top blade and bottom blade are matched to each other and are used together.

Can I have this blade sharpened?
Yes. Maddelin sharpens blades of all makes and for all clippers. Hand them in cleaned; for dirty blades a surcharge is added. Allow a waiting time of one to two weeks.

How often should I oil?
Roughly every ten minutes of clipping, and each time before and after use. Oil keeps the blades cool and lets them run smoothly across each other.

Why does my blade get hot while clipping?
Heat comes from the friction between top blade and bottom blade and from hair staying caught between the teeth. Regular oiling, brushing out in between and correct blade tension keep the temperature under control.
