Product Information
The Lister Star is a mains-powered clipper for full body clipping of horses and cattle. At 45 watts and a weight of 750 grams it stays light in the hand, even when you are taking off a full winter coat. It comes with A2F/AC blades, clipper oil, a filter, a brush and a storage bag, so you can get started straight away.
About this clipper
The Star is a classic working clipper for anyone who clips one or more horses themselves. It runs on mains power, so you need a socket, but you never lose time to a battery going flat halfway through a clip. The motor is air-cooled, which limits heat build-up during longer sessions.
At 750 grams the Star is one of the lighter mains-powered clippers. You notice that mainly in your wrist and shoulder when you work under the belly, down the legs or high up against the withers. The less weight you have to steer, the more calmly you can run the clipper over the body and the more even the result.
The Star works with screw-on blades from the Lister A series. These are two separate blades that you screw on: the bottom blade is the fixed comb that lies against the skin and sets the cutting height, the top blade moves back and forth. As standard you get the A2F/AC Fine, which clips at 1.4 mm. That is the classic choice for finishing a horse short and tight.
The whole A series fits the Star and also the Fusion, Eclipse, Liberty and Legend. That lets you pick the cutting height for each job: the A2/AC Medium at 2.5 mm leaves more coat, the CA2/AC Coarse gives the same 2.5 mm but with 18 teeth for a dirty or muddy coat, and the Covercote with 24 teeth at 5.0 mm is meant for a longer coat. Want to go shorter instead? There is the A2C/AC Close at 1.2 mm, the A2S/AC Surgical at 1.0 mm and the A2SS/AC Super Surgical at 0.5 mm.
Lister does not state the speed, noise level or cable length for the Star. If you definitely want a particularly quiet clipper, you are better off looking at a model for which that figure is given.
