Description
The Cavalor Mash & Mix is a palatable mash for horses that you soak in water before feeding. It is fed as an extra meal alongside forage and concentrates: after training or a competition, in warm weather, or when you are away from home. Once soaked it is soft, which makes it a practical choice for older horses too, or for horses that chew dry feed less easily. Another day-to-day advantage: electrolytes and other supplements mix evenly through a moist mash.
About this mash
The base is a mix of flaked and puffed grains: barley flakes (27%), expanded barley (10%) and expanded maize (5%). Flaking and puffing are heat treatments that open up the starch in the grain, unlike untreated cereals. Alongside these you will find oats, wheat bran, linseed, toasted soya beans, faba bean flakes and dried vegetables.
To prepare it, mix 1 part Mash & Mix with 1 part water at roughly 60 °C and let it soak for 15 minutes. Feed it next to forage and concentrates, as an extra meal or as a treat. The moist texture also makes it a handy carrier if you want to distribute electrolytes evenly through the ration. Fresh drinking water stays available at all times, mash or no mash.
The analytical composition contains 13% crude protein, 7.5% crude fat, 6% crude fibre, 5% sugar and 32.5% starch, with an energy value of 0.89 EWpa/kg. Cavalor advises 200 to 300 g per 100 kg body weight per day, which works out at 1.2 to 1.8 kg per day for a 600 kg horse.
