Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Absorbine ShowSheen Hair Polish & Detangler in 3.8 litres is the large format of the well-known coat shine spray and detangler for coat, mane and tail. It is meant for riders and yards that reach for it every day: 3.8 litres refills a 950 ml spray bottle four times. It adds shine, keeps mane and tail combable and repels dust and dirt.

About this large format

ShowSheen is a ready-to-use spray that you apply to the coat, mane and tail and do not rinse out. Absorbine highlights two components: provitamins for the coat and silk proteins for mane and tail. The hair becomes smoother and easier to comb, tangles and burrs come out more easily, and the coat repels dust and dirt, so your horse stays clean for longer. According to the brand, one application keeps working for days.

Two uses are less well known. ShowSheen helps reduce static under a rug, and the brand also lists it for use just before clipping. To get burrs out of the tail, let mane and tail dry first and comb afterwards.

What sets this format apart is only the quantity: the formula is the same as in the spray bottle. Absorbine supplies two formats through us, a 3.8 litre bottle and a 950 ml trigger spray. For a yard with several horses, or a grooming routine in which ShowSheen comes out daily, you simply decant into a spray bottle and carry on.

Within the Maddelin range, ShowSheen is the spray for shine and combability, not for washing. If you want to wash first, the Absorbine ShowSheen Shampoo & Conditioner 591 ml is made for that. If you cannot work with water, choose the Absorbine Miracle Groom Spray 946 ml.

Absorbine describes the best result after a wash: rinse the horse thoroughly, remove excess water with a sweat scraper and then apply ShowSheen. Stroke the hair flat with the palm of your hand or a fine brush, and comb through mane and tail.

For a weekly touch-up, brush the horse thoroughly first and apply ShowSheen to the dry coat, mane and tail. Then hand stroke or brush in the direction of the hair. Only comb out burrs and tangles once the hair is dry.

Skip the saddle area: Absorbine states this explicitly. Shake the bottle well before use and store it where it cannot freeze.

This format suits anyone using ShowSheen daily or for several horses: a competition yard, a livery yard, or a family with three ponies that all need a tidy tail. You decant into a spray bottle yourself and have stock for a long time.

If you only use ShowSheen now and then, the Absorbine ShowSheen Hair Polish & Detangler 950 ml with trigger spray is handier. If you are after cleaning rather than shine, choose the Absorbine ShowSheen Shampoo & Conditioner 591 ml, or the Absorbine Miracle Groom Spray 946 ml when washing with water is not an option. For a coat shine spray and detangler from another brand, there is the Veredus Super Sheen coat shine and detangling spray.

Shake the bottle well. Wash and rinse the horse, remove excess water with a sweat scraper and apply ShowSheen to coat, mane and tail. Stroke flat with your hand or a fine brush and comb through. It works on a dry coat too, after a thorough brushing. Skip the saddle area and store the bottle where it cannot freeze.
