Ride a shorter session the first time and afterwards check whether any pressure mark is visible.

For the leather a fixed routine is enough: wipe it down after riding, clean it regularly with saddle soap and follow with leather balm or grease. Let wet leather dry slowly at room temperature and hang the bridle on a wide bridle rack so the headpiece keeps its shape.
