Heiniger Clipper Blade Set 31/15 3 mm

Oil the blades regularly while clipping, even when everything is still running smoothly: the oil carries off heat and keeps the two blades moving easily over each other. Do not overtighten the tension nut, because too much blade tension creates heat and wear without clipping any shorter. Brush the blades out after use, oil the cutting edge and store them dry.

Only clip a clean, dry coat. Sand and mud blunt a cutting edge faster than the hair itself, so brush the horse thoroughly first. Have your blade sets and blades sharpened in good time instead of using them until they pull: a blunt cutting edge runs hotter and gives an uneven clip. This set is the usual choice for a full or partial clip of a horse with a clean coat, in autumn and winter. At 2 to 4 mm you keep the horse just short enough to dry quickly after work, while enough coat is left on.

If you want a neater, shorter finish, choose the 31F/15 or 31F/23 with 1 to 2 mm within the Heiniger range. If you are after a very short clip, the 53/23 at 1.0 mm is the shortest in the series. If you work with cattle and a dirtier coat, the 21/23 is intended for that. If you have a Heiniger Saphir or Opal, you do not need screw-on blades but a snap-on blade set, for example the #10 or the #10WF.

Screw the top and bottom blade onto the clipper together and do not overtighten the tension nut: too much blade tension creates heat and wear without clipping any shorter. Brush the horse out thoroughly beforehand and oil regularly while clipping.

Brush the blades out after use, oil the cutting edge and store them dry. Replace and sharpen them together; hand them in properly cleaned.

Does this fit my clipper?
This set belongs to the Heiniger screw-on blade system, which is used on the Xperience, the Xplorer and the Progress among others. The set does not fit a Heiniger Saphir or Opal, because those work with snap-on blade sets. If your clipper is not listed here, get in touch with us before you order.

How short does the 31/15 clip?
The cutting height is between 2 and 4 mm. For this item 3 mm is listed, which falls within that range.

What do the two numbers mean?
The first number is the bottom blade, the fixed comb that lies against the skin. That blade determines the cutting height. The second number is the moving top blade and does not change the cutting length.

What is the difference with the 31F/15?
The F belongs to the bottom blade and means finer: the 31F sets clip at 1 to 2 mm instead of 2 to 4 mm. So you clip about half as long.

Is the 31/23 the same as the 31/15?
In cutting height, yes: both sets clip at 2 to 4 mm, because they share the same 31 bottom blade. The difference is in the top blade.

Can I replace just one of the two blades?
Top blade and bottom blade are run in against each other and work best as a pair. Replace them together and have them sharpened together as well.

Why do my blades get hot?
Usually because of too little oil, too much blade tension or a blunt cutting edge. Oil regularly, do not overtighten the nut and have the set sharpened as soon as it starts to pull.

Can this blade set be sharpened?
Yes. Maddelin sharpens blades and blade sets of all brands. Hand them in properly cleaned.
