Work on a clean, dry coat and brush the grit out first. Lubricate the blade set with the supplied oil before you start and again after a few minutes of work: the oil keeps the blades running smoothly and cool. Brush the hairs out from between the teeth before you put the trimmer away, otherwise what is left mats together and the blade set runs stiffer next time.
This trimmer is an addition, not a replacement for a large machine. If you are clipping a whole horse, do the body first with a full clipper such as the Heiniger Saphir Horse or the Heiniger Onyx, and then finish the fine zones with the Buzzard. By using the attachment combs you move smoothly from a shorter body to longer hair on the legs without hard transitions.
