Heiniger Saphir Clipper Blade Horse 1.0 mm

After every clip, brush the hair out from between the teeth and apply clipper oil to the cutting edge before you put the head away. While clipping, oil it regularly too: the oil carries heat away and keeps the blades running smoothly. Store the head dry, because moisture and hair residue attack the cutting edge sooner.

Have your blade sets and blades sharpened in good time rather than using them until they pull: a blunt edge runs hotter and gives an uneven clip. Maddelin sharpens blades and blade sets of all brands; bring them in properly cleaned. If you work with several cutting heights, it is practical to have a second head ready: you swap in a few seconds and let the hot head cool down in the meantime. Saphir and Opal heads can be used interchangeably for that.

Choose this blade set when you want to clip a horse short and wide: for a full clip in autumn, for sport horses that sweat a lot, or when you want an evenly clipped body during the competition season. The combination of 1.0 mm and a wide cut is meant for surface area, not for detail work.

If you want to work the fine areas, you steer better with a narrower head such as the #15 (1.2 mm) or the #10 (1.5 mm): those get around the head, ears and legs more easily. If you would rather leave more coat, choose a higher cutting height within the Heiniger range, for instance the #10W (2.3 mm), the #7 (3.2 mm) or the #5 (6.3 mm). If you have an Xperience, Xplorer or Progress, you do not need a snap-on blade set but a screw-on blade set such as the 31/15.

Click the blade set onto the clipper without tools and oil regularly while clipping. At 1.0 mm you clip short; provide enough rugs for stable and field afterwards. Keep a second blade set ready so the hot one can cool down in the meantime.

After every clip, brush the hairs away, oil the cutting edge and store the blade set dry. Have it sharpened in good time and hand it in properly cleaned.

Will this fit my clipper?
This snap-on blade set fits the Heiniger Saphir and the Heiniger Opal. It does not fit a Heiniger Xperience, Xplorer or Progress, because those work with separate screw-on blades. If your machine is not listed here, do get in touch with us before you order.

How short does this blade set clip?
The cutting height is 1.0 mm. That is short: a thin, even layer of coat is left.

What does the W in #15W mean?
The W stands for wide. The head has a more generous cut than a standard head from the same range.

Can I use blade sets from my Saphir on my Opal?
Yes. Heiniger confirms that the blade sets of the Saphir and the Opal are interchangeable with each other.

Can I put a screw-on blade set on my Saphir?
No. A screw-on blade and a snap-on blade set are two separate systems. On a Saphir or Opal you use snap-on blade sets only.

Why is my blade set running hot?
Usually through too little oil or a blunt cutting edge. Oil it regularly while clipping and have the head sharpened as soon as you notice it pulling or moving more slowly through the coat.

Which blade set should I choose if I want to leave more coat?
Within the Heiniger range the #10W clips at 2.3 mm, the #7 at 3.2 mm and the #5 at 6.3 mm. Those leave more coat than this one.

Can this blade set be sharpened?
Yes. Maddelin sharpens blades and blade sets of all brands. Bring them in properly cleaned.
