Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

The Samshield Miss Shield Darkline Black Crystal Rain is a riding helmet for riders who want the recognisable Miss Shield line with a refined crystal finish. The black Darkline version carries Crystal Rain on both the top and the frontal band. With its long peak, removable liner and tunable fit, it is meant for training and competition, in size M (55-58 cm).

About this riding helmet

This version combines two things: the quiet black Darkline base and a pronounced crystal decoration. Crystal Rain is applied to the top and to the frontal band, so over a larger surface than on a version where only the band is finished. The crystals provide a fine sparkle that follows every movement. That gives the helmet a distinct character without any colour coming into play.

The most characteristic element of the Miss Shield model remains the long peak. It gives the helmet its typical, feminine silhouette and shields more direct sunlight than a traditional short peak. You notice that above all when riding in an outdoor arena facing a low sun, or on a long competition day. For a good many riders that longer peak is the reason to choose this model in particular, both competition riders and ambitious leisure riders.

Beneath the finish sits the construction Samshield is known for. The inner shell is built up from polystyrene of different densities. That material is designed to help absorb and distribute the energy of an impact, and the different densities mean that not every zone of the helmet is built in the same way. The chin strap is ergonomically shaped and semi-rigid, which helps the helmet stay stable in place while you ride.

Wearing comfort is worked out in practical terms. The inner lining is removable and washable, so you can regularly clean exactly the part that sits directly against your head. The size is determined by the combination of the helmet shell and the matching liner. That lets you tune the fit precisely to your head circumference instead of having to choose from a fixed range of shell sizes. Do get advice on this, because it is exactly this combination that decides whether a helmet fits well or not quite.

The Miss Shield is suitable for various forms of riding and can be worn both in training and at competition, as far as the applicable rules allow the helmet and this version. Samshield positions the Miss Shield range for dressage and leisure riding among other uses.

Care. Take out the inner lining and clean it according to the care label. Wipe the outside with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive products on the shell and certainly not on the Crystal Rain work. Let the helmet dry at room temperature, away from a heat source, and store it in a helmet bag so the crystals do not rub.

Checking and replacing. If your head was struck in a fall, stop using the helmet until it has been checked. The inner shell may have absorbed energy without anything showing on the outside. Have it inspected or replace it. Even without a fall, check now and then that the shell has no hairline cracks, that the chin strap still closes properly and that the liner is not worn through.

This version suits riders who want the Miss Shield silhouette with the long peak, and who deliberately choose a helmet that stands out through its crystal work. Samshield positions the range for dressage and leisure riding among other uses.

If you are mainly after an understated competition helmet, you are better off with a Miss Shield version without Crystal Rain: it gives the same line with a quieter look. If you want a coloured finish instead, or a blazon in chrome or Pink Gold, look at another custom version from our Samshield range. And if your head circumference does not match size M, choose a model that is available in several sizes.
