Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.
Rugs
How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.
Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.
The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information
The Samshield Clara Premium FW26 is the autumn-winter version of the Clara Premium: women's riding breeches with Full Grip, a high waist and an elastic waistband. Samshield makes them from a fabric produced in Italy that breathes, dries quickly and has plenty of stretch. Crystals on the front belt loops and back pockets, together with contrast stitching, complete the finish. Maddelin carries them in black, white and Cosmic Blue, from S to XL.
About these breeches
Samshield describes this Clara Premium as high-waisted women's competition breeches. For the autumn-winter 2026 season the model gets an elastic waistband, whereas the spring-summer version has its own buttons and a rivet on the pocket.
Fabric from Italy
According to Samshield, the fabric is made in Italy. The brand calls it breathable, quick-drying and highly elastic (‘high stretch’), crease-resistant and free from pilling. Samshield does not say where the breeches themselves are made up. At the bottom of the legs, a sock cuff fits closely around the ankle. The percentage composition is not on Samshield's website; you will find it on the label inside the breeches.
Full Grip
According to Samshield, all versions of this product at Maddelin are Full Grip. Samshield also sells the same model with Knee Grip. Choosing between the two is a matter of preference; it is not tied to a discipline.
Finish
The Samshield crystal logo sits on the thigh, and ultra-fine crystals decorate the front belt loops and the back pockets. Contrast stitching and the pleats Samshield uses as its signature define the back. For your bits and pieces there is a hidden phone pocket and two zipped pockets.
Colours and sizes
Maddelin carries the Clara Premium FW26 in black, white and Cosmic Blue, each in S, M, L and XL. The label shows the Samshield size: S is 34, M 36, L 38 and XL 40. This range therefore picks up where the spring-summer version leaves off, which Maddelin carries in XXS to M.
Want to wear the white version at a competition? White is allowed everywhere. In FEI dressage off-white is also possible, in FEI show jumping light fawn. At LRV, white breeches (optionally with a grey seat) are the rule and decorative details are allowed. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly: check your federation's current rules.
Black and Cosmic Blue are colours for training and everyday riding.
