Roeckl Riding Gloves Weldon

If you want one pair of winter gloves for riding and for the work around it, look at the touchscreen function and the reflective elements: you can use your phone without baring your hands, and the reflective details bounce light back on an evening ride.

If you ride dressage competitions in winter, keep a white pair to one side. Black is not listed in the international dressage rules, and Maddelin only stocks the Weldon in black.

Measure your hand again rather than carrying over your size from another model. Roeckl lists neither a lining nor a fastening for the Weldon, so the measurement around the knuckles is your guide, and the glove should fit like a second skin.

After a wet ride, dry the gloves flat at room temperature and put them on a few times while they dry. Not on a radiator and not in the tumble dryer: Roeckl rules both out across the brand.

Who is it for? For riders who keep riding through the winter and use the same glove around the yard, and for event riders who need a black glove for the dressage test.

When? In the cold months, for training, hacks, winter competitions and yard work. When riding in the dark, the reflective elements are a reason to pick this particular model.

In which discipline? Training and lessons in every discipline, showjumping, cross-country and hacking. Black is permitted in the eventing dressage test. In international driving, gloves are compulsory for the driver and the groom. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country: check the current rules of your federation.

When is another Roeckl model at Maddelin a better fit? If you ride international or national dressage and need white, look at the ROECK-GRIP WINTER or the ROECK-GRIP; the Weldon only comes in black. If you want to stay with the familiar ROECK-GRIP material in winter, the ROECK-GRIP WINTER is the one. For spring and summer, look at the ROECK-GRIP or the Lona.

If you also wear the Weldon for grooming or the evening round, do not leave it rolled up in a coat pocket after a wet round: lay it open to dry at room temperature.

Sorting by colour does not come into it with this model: Maddelin only stocks the Weldon in black. A laundry bag does matter. Do not turn the glove inside out, not even to get the inside dry faster, and lay it flat on a towel rather than on a radiator.

Otherwise, care follows Roeckl's brand-wide guidelines: delicate cycle or 30 °C, no fabric softener, no tumble dryer, dry at room temperature and put the glove on once in between. Roeckl publishes no model-specific instructions; what applies to this pair is on the label inside the glove, and machine washing requires the machine washable label there.

What is the SILICONE-GRIP for?

For grip on the rein. Roeckl describes a silicone-printed palm and, among the Roeckl models in Maddelin's range, lists this feature for the Weldon only. The manufacturer does not state the pattern of the print.

How does it differ from the ROECK-GRIP WINTER?

In material and features. The Weldon is made in Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro with COMFORT-CUT, a silicone grip, touchscreen compatibility and reflective elements. The ROECK-GRIP WINTER is made in ROECK-GRIP® laminated with easy closure as its only feature.

Is there a strap or hook-and-loop fastening at the wrist?

Roeckl lists no fastening for this model. So choose your size with the measuring rule, so that the glove fits like a second skin, as Roeckl asks.

How warm is the Weldon?

Roeckl says the Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro gives pleasant warmth and leaves freedom of movement. The manufacturer gives no temperature range and no lining for this model.

Does the glove work on a touchscreen?

Yes, Roeckl lists TOUCHSCREEN COMPATIBLE for the Weldon. The manufacturer does not do so for the ROECK-GRIP WINTER or the Jineta.

Can I ride a dressage test in a black glove?

In the eventing dressage test, black is explicitly among the permitted colours.
