LeMieux Pro-Sport Supportive Tendon Boots

The LeMieux Pro-Sport Boots are soft, light leg protection with a perforated Airprene lining and suede straps. They close around the lower leg and leave the leg free to move. LeMieux states them for both the front and the hind legs. A choice for everyday training work, warming up and turnout, for riders who do not want a rigid shell.

About these tendon boots

What kind of boot this is. This is a soft, light model without a hard outer shell. LeMieux describes it as a boot that encloses the leg and allows freedom of movement. The whole product is essentially a shaped piece of perforated neoprene with straps around it; the manufacturer documents no moulded plastic shell and no hard strike pad. That also decides what it is good at and what it is not.

Airprene. The lining is Airprene: neoprene with perforations that run right through the material. That lets air pass along the leg and lets heat and moisture escape from under the boot, instead of staying there as they do under closed neoprene. The material is soft, follows the shape of tendon and fetlock, and leaves no hard edges on the skin.

The straps. Finished with suede straps, in the same shades as the LeMieux saddle pads, so that the boots match the rest of your kit. They go on quickly and you can adjust the tension strap by strap until the boot no longer turns. Whether the straps are elastic and how many there are per boot, LeMieux does not state.

What you use them for, and what not. LeMieux states this model for front and hind legs, and mentions turnout, everyday work in the school and competition use. For everyday training work, warming up and turnout it is a practical model: light, soft, quick to put on. What it is not for: heavy jumping work, where you want a moulded shell over the tendon, and as a replacement for guidance from a vet or paramedical therapist. What this boot does is enclose the leg in soft perforated neoprene; anything beyond that is not substantiated by the manufacturer. At international dressage events, boots are not allowed in the competition arena and must already be off before entering the space around the competition arena; in the warm-up arena and in training they are allowed. For tendon boots on the front legs, the international jumping rules currently set no requirements as to shape; the only thing that applies is that everything worn together on one leg may weigh no more than 500 grams.

Care. According to LeMieux, this model can go into the washing machine at a low temperature, preferably 30 °C, in a wash bag and with all the hook-and-loop closed. Then let them air dry, away from any heat source, and never in the tumble dryer. Do bear in mind that suede gets rougher after repeated washing.
