Even a blade that ventilates well needs oil. Oil every few minutes while clipping: that keeps the blades cool and running smoothly. Feel the blade now and then, and if it is hot, put the machine down until it cools off. After the clip you brush the hair out of the teeth, wipe the blade clean and apply a layer of oil before you store it.

Check regularly that the blade is still firmly fitted and that the cutting length setting has not shifted. Once the blade goes blunt, you have it sharpened. We sharpen blades of all brands and for all machines; hand them in properly cleaned, because dirty blades cost extra. Clipper oil belongs in your clipping case as standard.

Choose this blade when you have a Premiere Merlin Duo and the blade of the large machine is blunt, damaged or worn. It is also a sensible spare if you clip several horses one after another and do not want to come to a halt halfway.

If you have to work on the head, ears, legs or sheath, you use the small trimmer with the small blade for the Merlin. If you clip with a Premiere Falco or Kite Li-Ion, you need the blade set for those machines; this blade does not fit them.

Does this blade fit my clipper?
This blade fits only the large machine of the Premiere Merlin Duo (item 801952). It does not fit the small trimmer from that same set, and it does not fit the Premiere Falco or the Kite Li-Ion. Is your machine not on that list? Contact us before you order.

How short does this blade clip?
The cutting length is adjustable from 0.8 to 3.2 mm. You decide yourself how much coat you leave.

What does powder metallurgy mean?
The steel is pressed together from metal powder under pressure instead of being cast. Premiere uses that method for less friction and better heat dissipation.

What is the ventilation structure for?
Its openings let air flow along the blade, so it gets less hot during longer clipping.

What is the difference with the small blade for the Merlin?
The large blade belongs to the large machine and is meant for the body. The small blade belongs to the small trimmer and is meant for detail work, with a fixed cutting length of 0.66 mm.

Can I have this blade sharpened?
Yes. We sharpen blades of all brands and for all machines. Hand them in properly cleaned, otherwise a surcharge is added.

How do I notice that the blade needs replacing?
It pulls at the hair, leaves lines, moves more slowly through the coat or becomes noticeably hot.
