Lay the shell straight over the back of the lower leg with the opening facing forwards, and close the straps with even tension: you should still be able to get a finger underneath. Neoprene expands when it gets wet, so after a quarter of an hour check that the straps are still sitting close. Take the boots off as soon as the work is done: heat lingers under a closed shell with neoprene. Wash them by hand in lukewarm water with a little mild soap, squeeze the water out without wringing and let them air dry. The tumble dryer is ruled out and a radiator is no good idea either: neoprene hardens from it.

Choose the Basic if you simply want sound leg protection for daily training and lunging, and are not planning to ask much more of it. It is also a logical first set for a young horse. For the hind legs you need fetlock boots, and no leg boot at all may be worn in the dressage arena.

Place the shell against the lower leg with the opening facing forwards, the bottom edge just above the fetlock. Close the lower hook-and-loop strap first, then the upper one, with even tension, and lay the flap over them. Walk for a few minutes and check that nothing has shifted. After riding, take them off and wash them by hand in lukewarm water. Squeeze out without wringing, let them air dry, not in the tumble dryer and not on a radiator. Close the hook-and-loop before you put them away.

Are these boots for the front legs or the hind legs?

For the front legs. Lami-Cell lists this model under tendon boots: the shell lies over the flexor tendons at the back of the lower leg and the front stays open. For the hind legs you need fetlock boots.

Do I get one boot or a pair?

A pair. Lami-Cell supplies this item in twos.

Which size do I choose?

Lami-Cell measures this model by height: Pony is 21 cm and Full is 23 cm. Measure the length of your horse's lower leg between knee and fetlock and compare with that. At Maddelin, navy comes in Pony and choco in Full.

Can I put them in the washing machine?

No. Lami-Cell prescribes washing by hand and rules out the tumble dryer. Lukewarm water, mild soap, squeeze out without wringing and let them air dry.

Do they hold in heat?

Yes. PU and neoprene seal the leg off and there are no openings, so heat and sweat stay under the boot. Take them off as soon as the work is done.

How do they differ from a dearer model?

An entry-level boot like this has no ventilation channels, no mesh, no built-up cushioning layer and no stud fastening. You get the basics: shell, lining and hook-and-loop.

May they be worn in a dressage test?

No. In the international dressage arena boots are forbidden and must already be off before you ride into the space around the competition arena. In training and in the warm-up arena they are allowed.
