The Maximilian Aira Show Shirt is a women's short-sleeve competition shirt that looks like a classic blouse but is cleverly closed: the easy-click buttons run from the collar to the bust, and below that the shirt is closed. Behind the collar sits a loop that holds your stock tie in place. At Maddelin in white and aqua, in XS and S.
About this competition shirt
Maximilian Equestrian calls the Aira a show shirt that combines the look of a classic shirt with a technical fabric. The cleverness is in the fastening: the shirt seems to have a row of buttons along its whole length, but in reality the easy-click buttons run from the collar to the bust and the rest of the length is fully closed. That means the shirt cannot fall open while you ride.
A second, very practical detail is the extra loop behind the collar that holds the stock tie in place. It solves a small but familiar nuisance: a stock tie that starts to slip during the test. The shirt also has metallic logo details on the collar.
The fabric is, according to Maximilian, ultra-light, soft to the touch, breathable and quick-drying, with 360-degree stretch for freedom of movement. The brand does not publish a fibre composition, neither for this model nor for the rest of its clothing range. Without data from the manufacturer the composition cannot be verified; the label in the shirt is the source for that.
On the choice of colour. At Maddelin the shirt comes in white and in aqua. For competition use, white is the most workable choice: in showjumping, FEI Jumping Rules article 207.2.3 requires a white collar and a white tie, stock or choker, and for children and pony riders even a fully white shirt. In dressage the FEI lays down nothing about the shirt, but the Belgian rules do require a white shirt. Aqua is therefore mainly meant for warming up, training and classes where the colour of the shirt body is free. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change from time to time, so check the rulebook of your own federation.
The limitations: the short sleeve is not warm, Maximilian gives no composition and no washing instructions, and at Maddelin there are only two sizes, XS and S.
