Fitting. Place the noseband about two fingers below the cheekbone and keep two fingers of room. If you use the flash strap, fasten it looser than the noseband itself; it is meant to keep the bit steady, not to hold the mouth shut. If you ride without the flash strap, remove the keeper as well for a clean look.

Care. Buffalo leather likes regular conditioning. Clean with saddle soap, then apply a thin layer of leather balm and let it soak in, paying extra attention to the buckle holes and the folds. The rubber reins are simply rinsed with lukewarm water; grease does not belong on rubber. Let everything dry at room temperature.
