A crank noseband can be pulled up tighter than a plain noseband, and that is exactly why deliberate adjustment matters. Keep two fingers of room between the strap and the nose. Being able to tighten it further does not mean you should.

Always set the noseband first and the flash strap only afterwards. The flash strap runs loosely under the bit and is there to steady the bit, not to pull the mouth shut. If you ride without it, you simply take it off.

With a wide noseband, check that it stays well clear of the cheekbone. Wide leather needs more height than a narrow strap, so it is worth checking again after the first ride.

New leather deserves some attention. Wipe the bridle down with a damp cloth after riding and let it dry at room temperature. Clean it regularly with saddle soap and then treat it with a thin layer of leather balm, paying extra attention to the folds at the buckles and at the crank fastening, since that is where the leather bends most often.
