Cob usually suits a finer horse's head, Full an average horse's head. Measure your current bridle strap by strap, and pay particular attention to the noseband circumference: an extra-wide noseband needs more room between cheekbone and lip corner than a narrow one.

Fit the noseband with two fingers of room to the nasal bone, and leave a flat hand under the throatlash. Check that the wide noseband is not pressing against the cheekbone anywhere; if it sits too low, it comes too close to the corners of the mouth.

Patent leather needs different care from ordinary leather: wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let it dry at room temperature. Do not use heavy greases or oils on it, as they dull the glossy layer. Treat the other straps in the classic way, with saddle soap followed by a conditioning product. Store the bridle dry and hang it on a rounded bridle rack so the headpiece keeps its shape.

This is a bridle for dressage, from the first competitions to the highest level. It suits riders who value shine and finish and at the same time want a broadly distributed noseband and a shaped headpiece.

For jumping or for hacking out, a plain bridle without patent leather is often the better choice because it asks less care: we have other models for that in the range. If you are looking for a bridle that comes with reins straight away, a set from our range is more practical.
