A ceramic blade set needs just as much oil as a steel one. Before you start, put a few drops of clipper oil on the teeth and repeat that every ten to fifteen minutes while clipping. Oil limits friction, keeps the blade set running smoothly and limits the heat that comes with it. Brush the hair away afterwards, wipe the blade set dry and store it dry.

Clip on a clean, dry coat. Sand and dried-on sweat take the edge off faster than the clipping itself. Use the clipper oil and cleaning products from our range. If the blade set turns blunt, first ask whether sharpening is an option for this version: we sharpen blades of all brands and all machines, with a waiting time of one to two weeks, and we ask that the blade set is handed in properly cleaned.

Choose this blade set if you have an A5 machine and are looking for a standard-width blade set at 1.5 mm, and if you value a cutting plate that according to Andis runs cooler. For anyone who clips one or two horses per season, this is the most usable first blade set.

If you mainly clip whole horses and want to get on faster over the body, the wide 10W version from the same range makes more sense. If you would rather have an all-steel, rust-resistant blade set, look at UltraEdge within our Andis range. If you have a Wahl 5-in-1 machine or a Heiniger with screw-on blades, this blade set does not fit.

Does this fit my clipper?
This blade set works on the A5 snap-on system. You find that system on Andis machines with a detachable blade set, on the Oster A5, on the Wahl KM range and on the Heiniger Saphir and Opal. Blade sets of those brands fit each other on that system. On a Wahl 5-in-1 machine such as the Adore, Admire or Adelar this blade set does not fit. How short does an Andis number 10 clip?
An Andis number 10 leaves 1.5 mm of hair. That is short enough to let sweat dry quickly and keep the coat clean, without taking the hair away completely.

Is a number 10 the same with every brand?
No. The numbering says something about the cutting height within that brand's range, but it is not standardised between brands. A blade set of another brand with the same number can therefore fit mechanically and still give a different cutting height. So always look at the mm value listed with the specific item.

What is the difference with the 10W version?
The cutting height is 1.5 mm on both. The W stands for wide: a wider cutting width, so you cover large areas in fewer passes. The standard width steers more easily on smaller areas.

How does CeramicEdge differ from UltraEdge?
CeramicEdge has a ceramic cutting plate which according to Andis runs cooler. UltraEdge is steel with a treated cutting edge and a chrome finish, and is built around rust resistance and sturdiness. Both fit the A5 snap-on system.

Do I have to oil a ceramic blade set as well?
Yes. Without oil every blade set runs harder and hotter, and loses its edge faster. Lubricating before and during clipping therefore remains necessary.

Can I clip a whole horse with this blade set?
You can. With the standard width you do make more passes than with a wide version, so a full clip takes a little longer.
