The Parlanti Passion KK is a tall riding boot in soft buffalo leather, without laces, with elastic bands at the front and back. Parlanti describes the model as very light. About this riding boot
At Parlanti, the KK is the model built around suppleness and contact. Instead of the calf leather of the Pro models, Parlanti uses soft buffalo leather here, and the boot has no laces but an elastic band at the front and a second one at the back. According to Parlanti, that double band lets the leg fit closely and gives contact with the horse.
The current version
Parlanti has updated the KK under the name KK Boots/S. That version has a 100% rubber sole from Soles by Michelin, a gel insole which, according to Parlanti, adds stability, and an inside leg in strong microfibre. The older KK had a standard rubber sole and no microfibre on the inside. If in doubt, ask Maddelin which version your pair is.
Zip, toe and details
At the back is an enlarged, reinforced zip with a zip guard and a lock on the pull tab. There are spur rests on the foot. The toe is round, whereas Parlanti's Pro models have a semi-square toe.
Comes up a size small
Parlanti says so explicitly in its size guide: the KK comes up a size small, and you are best off choosing one size smaller than your usual foot size. If you normally wear a 39, try the KK in a 38. The KK also has its own size guide, shared with the Malibu model, with slightly different centimetres from the guide for the Pro models.
Black at Maddelin
Parlanti makes the KK in five colours. Maddelin carries only black, in foot sizes 36 to 44 and in the codes S, S+, SH, SH+, M, M+, MH, MH+, L, L+ and LH. Parlanti does not offer crystal appliqués for the KK.
A plain black boot in competition
A plain black boot with a heel fits within the colour rule of the FEI jumping rules (black or brown) and of the LRV, which asks for black riding boots. For national dressage, black, single-coloured riding boots are required, or boots in the colour of the riding jacket; Paardensport Vlaanderen asks for black or the colour of the jacket. The KK is a plain black boot without decoration. The FEI rules apply only internationally. Because rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly, it is best to check your federation's current rulebook.

Expert advice
Start with your foot size and go down one: Parlanti states that the KK comes up a size small. Then measure your calf at its widest point, the circumference just below the knee and the length from your heel to the back of your knee, standing and in breeches. Add 1.5 cm to that length, because the boot drops once broken in.
Compare your measurements with the KK guide, not with the one for the Pro models: the centimetres differ. In the Maddelin shop you can try several codes side by side.
If you ride with spurs, use the spur rests on the foot. Boot trees and a boot bag from the Maddelin range keep the supple leg in shape.
Use & care
Putting on: unlock the pull tab, open the zip fully and step into the boot. Close the zip and click the tab back into place.
The first rides: the KK feels tight at first. According to Parlanti, a boot drops by 1.5 to 2 cm on average once broken in.
Caring for buffalo leather: Parlanti publishes no care instructions. Wipe off dirt with a slightly damp cloth and use a care product suitable for buffalo leather, testing it first on a small, inconspicuous spot. Keep the product away from the elastic bands.
Storage: upright, dry, with boot trees in the legs.
