Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

The Kentucky Horsewear Sparkling saddle pad is a saddle pad with a sparkling binding and a 3D Kentucky logo, available in a dressage and a jumping version. It is intended for riders who want to add a decorative accent to their equipment without compromising on fit. The breathable, quick-drying lining keeps your horse's back comfortable.

About this saddle pad

The Kentucky Horsewear Sparkling saddle pad comes in two versions: a dressage model and a jumping model. That distinction matters more than it seems. The shape of a saddle pad follows the shape of your saddle: a dressage saddle has long, straight flaps and calls for a longer, straighter cut pad, while a jumping saddle with forward-set flaps needs a pad that gives more room at the front. If you ride both disciplines with different saddles, you choose the matching version for each saddle and still keep the same look.

What sets this saddle pad apart from a plain classic model is the sparkling binding along the edge, combined with a 3D Kentucky logo. Where a plain pad deliberately stays understated, this model is meant for riders who like a more eye-catching accent. That makes it suitable for a well-turned-out training set and, wherever a sparkling finish is permitted, equally suitable for a competition outfit. The model belongs to the wider Sparkling line from Kentucky Horsewear, which also includes matching accessories such as a fly hood and a cap.

Underneath the decorative finish sits a carefully built pad. The outer fabric is 80% polyester and 20% cotton, a blend that combines sturdiness with a pleasant feel. The filling is 100% polyester and the lining 100% cotton, breathable and quick-drying. Cotton against the coat feels soft and absorbs moisture; the quick-drying character means the pad is ready to use again soon after a sweaty session. The whole pad is cut to Kentucky's characteristic anatomical shape, which follows the line of your horse's back instead of running straight across it.

The pad is machine washable at 30 degrees and must not go in the tumble dryer. If you like to personalise your equipment, this model can also be customised through Kentucky.

Lay the saddle pad straight on the back, place the saddle on top and pull the pad up far enough at the wither. That keeps pressure off the wither line and lets the lining sit flat against the back. Before you mount, always check that the pad lies under the saddle without unwanted creases.

Wash the pad at 30 degrees and let it air dry, flat or over a rack. The tumble dryer is best avoided: it affects both the filling and the sparkling finish. Beat the dust out of the pad after riding before you wash it, so that sand and loose hairs do not keep rubbing the fabric.

Choose this saddle pad if you ride dressage or jumping and are looking for a discipline-specific pad with a clear decorative character. It is just as much at home in training as at competitions where a sparkling finish is permitted.

If you are heading to a competition whose rules require a plain, understated saddle pad, you are better off taking a classic model from our range.
