About these riding gloves
The Julia is built from two zones, each with its own job. The back of the hand is ROECK-PROOF® Ural, from the ROECK-PROOF® line that Roeckl uses for its cold-weather models. The palm is ROECK-GRIP® laminated: the same grip material as in the classic summer models, but applied on an extra layer instead of used on its own. Anyone who knows the ROECK-GRIP or the Malta will therefore find the same grip material in the Julia, in laminated form.

In dressage, gloves are compulsory, internationally in white, off-white or the colour of your jacket, and Paardensport Vlaanderen requires white, buff or the colour of the jacket. Black and navy therefore go with a black or dark blue jacket; mocha is a brown shade and only fits there with a jacket of that same colour. For training, showjumping, hacking and yard work no colour requirement applies, and any of the three colours can be used there.
On fit: a riding glove should fit closely. Roeckl itself writes that its riding gloves should fit like a second skin, because holding the rein requires sensitivity of touch. That also applies to a winter model: so do not deliberately take a size up because it is winter.

How the Julia differs from related Roeckl models at Maddelin. The Julia has a laminated ROECK-GRIP® palm, like the ROECK-GRIP WINTER: if you are used to the grip material of the ROECK-GRIP, you will find it here in laminated form. The Jineta is another winter option, but it has MICRO-AIR laminated on the palm and a ROECK-PROOF® EVO Denali back of the hand with a lining whose weight Roeckl states, 90 g/m²; Maddelin carries it in one colour. The Malta has ROECK-GRIP® on the back of the hand and the palm, the Lusita SUPREMA by ROECKL with a ROECK-AIR palm and Swarovski crystals on the fastening, the Laila 2 suntan™ Mesh with a MICRO-AIR palm. For those last three, Roeckl states no lining.
When another model is a better fit. If you are looking for a model for mild weather, the Malta or the Lusita makes more sense. If you want to wear white or off-white in the dressage arena, the Julia is out: Maddelin carries it in mocha, black and navy. And if you want to use your phone with the glove on, look at the Malta or the Lusita — Roeckl explicitly states touchscreen compatibility for those, not for this item.
Each discipline has its own rules. In dressage, gloves are compulsory: internationally in white, off-white or the colour of your jacket, and under Paardensport Vlaanderen in white, buff or the colour of the jacket. Black and navy go with a black or dark blue jacket; mocha is a brown shade and falls outside white, off-white and buff. In the eventing dressage test, black is also explicitly permitted. In showjumping and cross-country, gloves are not compulsory but are permitted, and there is no colour requirement; the same goes for training, hacking and yard work. The size follows from the circumference around your knuckles, thumb not included, with a loose fist, divided by 2.7. About 21.6 cm comes out at size 8 and 23 cm at 8.5, the largest size in this range.
Roeckl gives no cut and no fastening for this item. What is established is the construction per zone: the palm is laminated ROECK-GRIP®, the same grip material as in the ROECK-GRIP. Take your usual glove size, not a size up: Roeckl wants a riding glove to fit like a second skin, in winter too.
Pull the glove fully on until your fingertips are in the tips, and only then close any fastening around the wrist.
Choose the colour according to use. If you ride dressage competitions, let the colour of your jacket decide — black with a black jacket, navy with a dark blue one. If you mainly ride at home and out hacking, the choice of colour is yours: no colour requirement applies there.
Keep a pair for mild weather alongside this one for spring and summer. The Lusita, the Laila 2 and the Malta are the Roeckl models at Maddelin for that; Roeckl explicitly describes the Lusita for summer conditions.
