Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Horseware Rambo Duo Plus Turnout is a waterproof, breathable turnout rug with 100g fill, supplied with a detachable neck cover and a 300g liner. It is made for horses that live out through the shoulder seasons and winter. The main advantage: use the outer rug on its own when it is mild and add the liner when it turns cold, with one set instead of two rugs.

About this turnout rug

The Duo Plus is made up of two parts. The outer rug has a light 100g thermobonded fibrefill. The supplied 300g liner goes underneath when your horse needs more insulation. That gives you a lightweight turnout rug and a warm winter rug in one. The rug is also compatible with the Horseware liner system, and the detachable neck cover is included as standard.

The outer fabric is 1000D Ballistic Nylon, the tough nylon Horseware uses for the Rambo range. It is waterproof and breathable: rain stays out, while moisture from your horse can escape. Inside is a 210D embossed polyester lining with the Horseware logo, anti-static and shine-enhancing for the coat.

For fit, Horseware combines the Surefit Neck Design, the V-Front Closure and dual leg arches. The rug is secured with 3 crossed surcingles using the Rambo Safety Surcingle System, a tail strap and a wipe-clean PVC tail cord. The hardware is stainless steel. Reflective strips and the Velcro Sandwich Closure complete the specification.

Within the Horseware range at Maddelin, the Horseware Rambo Duo Ripstop Plus Turnout Bundle is the more extensive option, with two liners of 100g and 200g and a ripstop outer. If one extra layer is enough for you, the Duo Plus is the one to choose.

Use the outer rug on its own while the weather is mild and add the liner when it gets properly cold. The combination your horse needs depends on the coat, whether your horse is clipped, how much it moves, and on rain and wind. Regularly slide your hand under the rug at the withers and behind the shoulder: if it feels damp or warm, leave the liner out.

Lay the liner flat under the outer rug, with no creases under the surcingles. Let a wet rug dry completely before putting it away, and keep the liner or neck cover you are not using dry and clean.

Choose the Rambo Duo Plus if your horse lives out from autumn to spring and you want one set to switch between light and warm. It suits a sport horse that is clipped in winter but spends the day in the field just as well as a pleasure horse that is out a lot, whatever discipline you ride.

Put the rug on, with or without the liner, and fasten the V-Front Closure at the chest first, then the 3 crossed surcingles. Fasten the tail strap and attach the neck cover if you are using it. Machine wash at 30 °C. Line dry only, do not bleach, tumble dry or iron.

Measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, to the middle of the tail and subtract 10 cm. At Maddelin, Horseware size 145 is listed as 145/195/6.6 and size 155 as 155/205/6.9.

Does this rug have leg straps?
Horseware does not list leg straps for this model. The rug is held in place by 3 crossed surcingles, a tail strap and a wipe-clean PVC tail cord.

How do I wash this turnout rug?
Machine wash at 30 °C. Line dry only, do not bleach, tumble dry or iron.

What warranty does Horseware give?
2 years as standard. After registration you get a 10-year extended warranty on waterproofing, breathability and hardware.
