Choose the size based on your pony's head measurements, not on his height at the wither. Shetland comes up smaller than Pony; if in doubt, measure the length of your current noseband and headpiece and compare. Still unsure? Let us know and we will look at it together.

When fitting, leave about a hand's width under the throatlash and two fingers under the noseband. Set the flash strap looser than the noseband itself: it is meant to keep the bit quiet, not to pull the mouth shut. Check that the headpiece sits freely behind the ears and that the browband does not press against the base of the ears.

A simple routine is enough for the leather. Wipe off sweat and sand after riding with a damp cloth and treat the leather regularly with leather soap followed by a leather balm or leather oil. Always let wet leather dry at room temperature, never near a stove. Hang the bridle on a wide bridle rack, so the headpiece is not left in a sharp kink.

This bridle is meant for ponies and Shetlands, and therefore for young riders, pony clubs and riding schools looking for a tidy, comfortable bridle for small heads. It suits dressage, jumping and recreational riding, as well as pony competitions where a classic bridle is expected.

If you ride a cob or a horse, this model is not suitable: it only exists in Shetland and Pony size. In that case, look at a bridle from our range in Cob, Full or X-Full. If you are after pronounced decoration or crystals on the browband, our range has models with more ornament; the Middleton deliberately stays plain.

Are the reins included?
No. You receive the bridle without reins, so you can choose which reins you want with it.

Which size should I take?
Shetland for Shetlands and very small ponies, Pony for ordinary ponies. Go by head measurements rather than height; if in doubt, measure your current noseband and headpiece.

A combined noseband, so a noseband with a flash strap beneath it. The flash strap has a protective flap.

How do I care for the leather?

Is this bridle suitable for a sensitive pony?
The anatomical headpiece and the soft padding on headpiece, noseband and browband spread the pressure over a larger surface, which makes wearing it more pleasant. If your pony keeps showing discomfort, have the fit checked.
