Adjust the headpiece so the browband sits free and does not press anywhere against the base of the ears. With a bridle that has a cut-back headpiece you will notice it falls into place quickly, but always check that there is still a finger's width of room behind the ears.

You adjust the flash strap separately from the noseband. First close the noseband, leave two fingers underneath it, and then tighten the flash strap loosely under the bit. A flash strap is there to stabilise the bit, not to pull the mouth shut.

New leather is still a little stiff. Wipe the bridle down with a damp cloth after the first rides, let it dry at room temperature and then treat it with leather soap and a thin layer of balm. That way it breaks in faster and stays supple. Do this especially on the folds at the buckles, because that is where leather wears first. Simply let the non-slip reins air dry after a wet ride; do not put them near the heating.
