At sizes this small, accurate adjustment matters: leave roughly a hand's width under the throatlash and two fingers under the noseband. Check that the cheekpiece holds the bit neatly in place without pulling up the corners of the mouth, and that the headpiece sits clear behind the ears.

You choose the reins yourself. For small riders, reins in pony length are the most comfortable; reins that are too long simply end up dangling. With this bridle you might also consider reins with stops, which give children's hands something to hold on to.

Clean the leather with saddle soap and follow up with a leather balm or leather oil. Wipe off sweat and sand after every ride, especially around the padding, and let wet leather dry slowly.

This bridle is intended for shetlands and mini shetlands, and therefore for pony clubs, riding schools, children learning to ride and families with a small pony at home. It suits lessons, hacking and pony competitions.

If you ride a larger pony, a cob or a horse, this model is not suitable: it only comes in Shetland and Mini Shetland. In that case, look at a bridle from our range in Pony, Cob or Full.
