BR Grip Pro Gloves

Choose the Grip Pro when grip is your first requirement, whether teaching, showjumping or out on a hack. BR puts the non-slip quality in the main material, not in a separate insert.

Use BR's size guide and measure the circumference of your hand at the widest part of the palm, without including the thumb; BR works to a tolerance of 3 millimetres. Palm circumference determines the size.

Allow for wear. According to BR, grippy non-slip reins, lead ropes and lunge lines in particular shorten the glove's life, and BR explicitly excludes wear and tear from the warranty. Follow the washing instructions and do not use fabric softener, as BR specifies. For cold weather, add a lined model alongside it, as the Grip Pro is unlined.

Who is it for?

For riders who above all want grip and contact, in any size: BR explicitly lists the model as unisex, and the size range runs from 4 to 11. If you lunge a lot, note that BR names lunge lines among the things that shorten the glove's life.

When do you wear them?

All year round in mild weather and indoors in the arena. Not in freezing weather: this model has no lining.

In which discipline?

Dressage, showjumping, eventing, driving and leisure riding. In the eventing dressage test, black is explicitly permitted; in international dressage the colour must be white, off-white or match your jacket, and with Paardensport Vlaanderen white, buff or match your jacket. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country: check the current rules of your federation.

When is another model a better fit?

If your hands get warm quickly, the BR Glory Pro from the same brand is the better choice: it has mesh inserts that, according to the manufacturer, breathe and have a cooling effect. For winter yard work, choose a lined work glove, and for a dressage competition in a jacket of another colour, a white or off-white riding glove.

Open the hook-and-loop fastening, pull the glove on until your fingertips sit flat in the tips of the fingers, then close the fastening around the wrist. Check that the rein reinforcement lies flat in the palm and that the elastic insert on the back of the hand is not creased.

Care as specified by BR: machine wash at 30 °C, no fabric softener, close the hook-and-loop fastening before washing or use a separate laundry bag. Then dry the gloves flat or hang them up in a ventilated room. Not in the tumble dryer. The one-year warranty covers defects in material, stitching and manufacture; wear from grippy non-slip reins, lead ropes and lunge lines is not covered.

Where does the Grip Pro get its grip from?

From the material itself. BR describes the polyurethane as non-slip and does not assign it to one zone; the manufacturer mentions no separate grip insert.

Is this glove breathable?

BR does not claim that for this model. Within the same brand, the Glory Pro is the version with breathable mesh inserts. If that is what you are after, choose that one.

Is this a women's or a men's model?

Neither: BR explicitly lists the Grip Pro as unisex; BR's size guide runs from 4 to 11.

How do I work out my size?

Measure the circumference of your hand at the widest part of the palm, without including your thumb, and look up that circumference in BR's table. The manufacturer works to a tolerance of 3 millimetres. Size 8 corresponds to 22 cm, size 9 to 26 cm.

Can I use fabric softener?

No. BR explicitly rules out fabric softener in its washing instructions, as it does the tumble dryer. The manufacturer gives no reason.

What does packed per pair mean?

That the two gloves are supplied packed together. BR states this explicitly for this model; the Glory Pro does not carry that statement.

How long will the glove last?

That depends mainly on your reins. BR gives a one-year warranty on defects in material, stitching and manufacture, but wear and tear is not covered, and the manufacturer warns that grippy non-slip reins, lead ropes and lunge lines shorten the glove's life: grip against grip, as BR puts it.

Is a second pair useful for driving?

In driving, gloves are compulsory, for the groom as well. Two people on the same carriage therefore each need a pair, and with the unisex sizes 5 to 11 at Maddelin, both can look for their size in the same model.

Can I wear black or navy in dressage?

In dressage, gloves are compulsory, internationally in white, off-white or the colour of your jacket, and with Paardensport Vlaanderen in white, buff or the colour of the jacket. Navy therefore goes with a navy jacket; black does not, except in the dressage test of an eventing competition, where black is permitted. In showjumping, gloves are not compulsory. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly, so check the rules of your own federation.
