LeMieux Fleece Edge Mesh Brushing Tendon Boots

This is a boot for everyday work. Do not pull the elastic straps too tight: they are made to hold the boot in place without squeezing the leg, and you should be able to slide a finger between fleece and skin. Knock the sand out of the mesh after your ride, because fine sand left in the fabric rubs. Wash them at 30 °C in a wash bag with all the hook-and-loop closed, and let them air dry; never in the tumble dryer, as heat flattens the fleece. If your horse also catches itself in front of the hoof, combine them with overreach boots; those are not included in this set.

Choose this model if you want a light, airy boot for daily training, warming up, dressage work and hacking, and if you want a soft edge without the bulk of a fully fleece-lined boot. Because LeMieux states them for front and hind legs, two pairs cover all four. If you want the same mesh principle but airier still and without neoprene, the LeMieux Arika Mesh Boots are an alternative; they do need washing by hand. If you really go over fences, the leg belongs in a tendon boot with a moulded shell over the tendon, such as the LeMieux Exo-Flex Tendon Boot. If you compete in dressage, bear in mind that boots may not be worn in the international competition arena.

Put the boot around the leg so that the PU leather strike pad lies on the inside, against the fetlock. Close the double top strap first, then the lower strap, each time in the same direction, and pull until the boot no longer turns; you should be able to slide a finger between fleece and skin. Use the rubber pull tab to undo them. Knock the sand out of the mesh, wash at 30 °C in a wash bag with the hook-and-loop closed and let them air dry.

Are these boots for the front or the hind legs?

LeMieux states them for both. They are sold in pairs, so for four legs you need two pairs.

Can they go in the washing machine?

Yes. LeMieux states a low temperature, preferably 30 °C, in a wash bag and with all the hook-and-loop closed. Then let them air dry, away from any heat source, and not in the tumble dryer.

How does this model differ from the LeMieux Arika Mesh?

Both have a mesh shell. This model has a soft fleece edge, a strike pad in PU leather, a double top strap and may go into the machine at 30 °C. The Arika is built without neoprene, has a flat bound edge instead of fleece, and needs washing by hand in cold water.

Is this a tendon boot for showjumping?

No. There is no moulded, hard shell over the back of the tendon. For jumping work you are better off with a proper tendon boot.

Which colours and sizes are there?

Black, black with natural and white with natural, in sizes M, L and XL.

Are the straps elastic?

Yes. LeMieux states strong, elastic straps with a rubber pull tab, so that they hold the boot in place without you having to pull hard.

May I use them in the dressage arena?

Not at international dressage events: boots must be off before entering the space around the competition arena. In the warm-up arena and during training they are allowed.

How much do they weigh?

LeMieux does not state a weight per boot for this model.
