Product Information

The Dy'on Flat Leather Bridle With Snap Hooks is a snaffle bridle in flat, vegetable-tanned leather, with snap hooks closing the cheekpieces and the throatlash. That lets you swap bits quickly and get the bridle on and off in seconds. Intended for riders and yards that work with several horses and still want a tidy, classic-looking bridle.

About this bridle

With this model, everything revolves around ease of work. Instead of small buckles on the cheekpieces, Dy'on uses snap hooks here: you unclip the bit and clip it back on without fiddling with narrow straps and stiff holes. The throatlash also closes with a snap hook, which makes putting the bridle on and taking it off remarkably quick. If you work with several horses, change bits often or are still teaching a young horse to stand still, that saves time every day.

The bridle is made of flat English leather that is vegetable-tanned. Flat leather means the straps lie flat rather than being stitched round: plain, sleek and easy to keep clean. Vegetable-tanned leather feels somewhat firmer at first and gradually softens with use and care. The colour often deepens slightly along the way. That breaking-in is part of the material, and it is exactly why this type of leather ages well.

The browband is straight and kept supple, in the same flat line as the rest of the bridle. The noseband has a removable 13 mm flash strap. Ride with the flash strap fastened and you work with a combined noseband; leave it off and you keep a sleek, classic look. That way you can use the same bridle for different horses or different training moments.

This bridle is offered in the colour combination Brown/Silver, in size Full. Reins are not part of the delivery, so you decide yourself which width, grip and finish suit your hand and your discipline.

Before ordering, measure the length of your current bridle strap by strap and compare it with the size you have in mind. This model comes in size Full, the usual size for a normally built horse.

When fitting, leave room for two fingers under the noseband and for a flat hand under the throatlash. If you use the flash strap, do not tighten it more than the noseband itself: it is there to keep the bit steady, not to hold the mouth shut. If you prefer to ride without it, simply take it off.

Check the snap hooks regularly. Wipe the bridle down after every ride with a slightly damp cloth and treat the leather every few weeks with leather soap and a feeding product. Never let leather dry beside a radiator or in full sun, and store it dry, preferably on a bridle rack so the headpiece keeps its shape.

This is a logical choice when speed and convenience matter every day: a busy yard, instructors, professionals riding many horses, or riders who change bits regularly. The plain, flat design suits training as well as a well-turned-out picture in the arena.

If what you are mainly after is an elegant bridle with a wide padded noseband and a decoratively finished browband for the dressage arena, another model from our range will suit you better. Anyone who prefers to keep the classic small buckles on the cheekpieces is also better off with a bridle without snap hooks. Bear in mind, too, that this model is only offered in size Full.

The cheekpieces and throatlash close with snap hooks, so you change bits easily and get the bridle on and off quickly. Leave two fingers of room under the noseband and a flat hand under the throatlash. Do not tighten the removable 13 mm flash strap more than the noseband.

Check the snap hooks regularly. Wipe the bridle down after every ride with a slightly damp cloth and treat the leather every few weeks with leather soap and a feeding product. Never let it dry beside a radiator or in full sun.

Are the reins included?
No, the reins are not included. You choose them separately.

Which size should I take?
This bridle is offered in size Full. Measure your current bridle strap by strap and compare before ordering.

Does this bridle come in other sizes?
The sizes we stock as standard are listed under the technical specifications. Other sizes can be ordered on request.

What type of noseband does this bridle have?
It has a noseband with a removable 13 mm flash strap. With the flash strap on you ride with a combined noseband; without it you are left with a single noseband.

What are the snap hooks for?
They sit on the cheekpieces and on the throatlash. That lets you detach and reattach the bit without opening buckles, and put the bridle on and off faster.

How do I care for the leather?
Wipe it down after riding, clean it regularly with leather soap and then apply a feeding product. Drying is done at room temperature, not near a heat source.

Why does the leather feel stiffer at first?
Vegetable-tanned leather is firmer when new. Through riding and care it gradually softens and the colour often deepens slightly.
