Product Information

The Effol SuperStar-Shine Orange & Ginger is a 750 ml coat shine spray for coat, mane and tail, with an orange and ginger scent. It is the only version in the range Effol describes as suitable for all coat colours and as doping-free. You use it after grooming, for shine and long hair that combs through easily.

About this coat shine spray

Effol describes an intense, natural shine for this bottle, without residue and without an artificial feel. Knots, shavings and straw come away almost without pulling, mane and tail gain volume and bounce, dry and brittle hair is prevented, and the effect lasts for days.

Two things set this bottle apart within the range. Effol states explicitly that it is suitable for all coat colours, which does not appear on the other versions, and calls the spray doping-free. That last point is the brand's own statement, without a certificate or reference to any rulebook; what is allowed at a competition is set by your own federation's rules.

The formula matches the base version: water, a non-ionic emulsion of highly viscous polymethylsiloxane, a silicone emulsion, parfum, polysorbate 20 and citric acid. According to the safety data sheet the pH sits between 4 and 6, so on the acidic side. Rinsing is not needed. In the safety data sheet the product is classified as H412: harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. So do not pour leftovers or rinsing water into a ditch or a drain leading to open water, and work in a well-ventilated space.

Within the range at Maddelin this is the fruity, spiced version. The Effol SuperStar-Shine without added fragrance is the neutral base, the Effol SuperStar-Shine Mint puts the detangling formula first with a scent from mint oil, and the Effol SuperStar-Shine Lavender is the limited edition with lavender oil, whose formula contains alcohol and is flammable. All four come in 750 ml.

Effol gives no dosage or step-by-step method for this variant. Brush off first, then spray lightly onto a clean coat and onto mane and tail, and comb through. Because the spray suits all coat colours, you do not have to change product between a chestnut and a grey.

Effol does not ask you to skip particular areas. If you want to keep grip in the saddle, leave the back and the girth area alone. The tip about spraying the coat before clipping appears on the regular SuperStar-Shine, not on this variant.

This bottle is classified as H412, harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Do not spray over a drain or ditch and do not pour leftover product into surface water; contents and packaging go to waste in line with local regulations. Work in a well-ventilated space, keep the bottle out of reach of children and wash your hands after use.

This bottle suits riders whose horses come in different coat colours and who want to work with one spray, and anyone who prefers a fruity scent to mint or lavender. If the brand's doping wording matters to you, this is also the version to take: it appears on no other bottle in the range.

If you want no scent, the Effol SuperStar-Shine 750 ml is the neutral base with the same formula. If detangling comes first, the Effol SuperStar-Shine Mint 750 ml puts the emphasis there. If volume in mane and tail is your concern, the Effol Mähnen-Schweif-Liquid 500 ml is more targeted. If the coat is dirty rather than dull, start by washing, for instance with the NAF Show Off Shampoo or, for a grey, with the Effol White-Star Spray-Shampoo 500 ml; a coat shine spray does not clean.

Effol gives no instructions for use for this variant. Spray lightly onto a clean, dry coat and onto mane and tail, then comb through; rinsing is not needed. Work in a well-ventilated space, do not spray towards the head and wash your hands thoroughly after use.

Keep the bottle out of reach of children and store it closed, out of sunlight and away from heat. Dispose of leftover product and packaging in line with local regulations and never into surface water.

Is this spray suitable for all coat colours?
Yes, Effol states that explicitly for this variant. The wording does not appear on the other bottles in the range.

What does it mean that Effol calls the spray doping-free?
That the brand itself states the product contains no doping-relevant substances. Effol provides no certificate or withdrawal period with it. What is allowed at a competition is set by your own federation's rules; check them if you are unsure.

Do I need to rinse the spray out?
No. Effol mentions no rinsing step; the spray stays in the coat and long hair.

How does this bottle differ from the Mint and the Lavender?
In scent and in formula. Mint takes its scent from mint oil, Lavender from lavender oil and contains alcohol, which makes that version flammable. This bottle uses parfum and shares the base formula of the regular SuperStar-Shine.

Why is there a warning about aquatic organisms?
The safety data sheet classifies the product as H412: harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. So do not pour leftovers into a ditch or a drain leading to open water.

What is the pH?
Between 4 and 6 according to the safety data sheet.

Can I mist the coat with this spray before clipping?
Effol gives that tip for the regular SuperStar-Shine, not for this variant. To be safe, use the base version for that.

Which sizes does this variant come in?
Effol lists the Orange Ingwer in 750 ml only.
