Utzon Edinburgh Bridle Glitter

Vegetable-tanned leather asks for patience at the start. Treat the bridle with a thin layer of leather balm before first use and repeat that more often than you are used to during the first few weeks. Work in thin layers: too much grease at once makes the leather limp rather than supple. After that breaking-in period, cleaning with saddle soap and the occasional treatment with leather balm is enough.

Wipe the glitter browband separately, with a dry cloth. Use no soap or grease on it, because that stays in the finish and dulls it.

Adjust the headpiece so that a finger's width of room remains behind the ears and the browband does not press anywhere against the base of the ears. For the noseband, leave two fingers of room. If you ride with the flash strap, fasten it loosely under the bit; it is there to steady the bit, nothing more.

Because no reins are supplied, you choose those separately. Web or rubber reins with stops give more grip in wet weather, while plain leather reins match the classic line of this bridle.

This bridle suits riders who want a classic black bridle with one eye-catching detail, and who are willing to give vegetable-tanned leather the care it needs. It works for dressage and jumping and at breed inspections, and just as well in daily schooling.

If you want a completely plain look, choose the Edinburgh model without the glitter finish or another plain bridle from our range. If you are after a bridle that already includes the reins, a model supplied with reins is more practical. And if you need size Cob or Pony, this is not the right bridle: here it exists only in Full.

What does vegetable-tanned leather mean?
The leather is tanned with plant-based tannins instead of chrome salts. It is a little stiffer at first, breaks in gradually and moulds lastingly to the head, but it asks for more regular greasing.

How do I care for the leather?
Clean with saddle soap and look after it with leather balm, in thin layers. Wipe the glitter section dry.

How does this differ from the standard Edinburgh?
In the browband: here it is finished with glitter.
