If you are hesitating between Cob and Full, measure the bridle your horse wears now. The length of the noseband and the distance from headpiece to bit tell you more than the size name on the label. A finer head usually sits better in Cob, a roomier warmblood head in Full.

Adjust the noseband so that two fingers fit between the strap and the nasal bone, and never fasten the flash strap tighter than the noseband itself. Check again after the first few weeks: new buffalo leather stretches a little at first, which can shift the holes.

Care takes little, but it should be regular. Wipe away sweat and sand after riding with a damp cloth, clean the leather periodically with a mild leather soap and then feed it with a leather balm or leather oil. Store the bridle dry and airy, preferably in a bridle bag or under a cover, out of direct sunlight.

This is a workhorse among bridles: meant for riders who put in the hours and want a bridle that will last for years without giving up on finish. It suits dressage training, jumping training, lessons and hacking.

Buffalo leather is firmer and coarser in structure and is therefore intended for intensive daily use. Calfskin feels finer and is chosen more often for the competition ring.
