Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.

Rugs

How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.

Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.

The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information

The Premiere Perpignan dressage girth is an anatomical short girth in soft "cow softy" cowhide, with 10 mm foam padding and elastic on both sides. It is designed for saddles with long girth straps (billets), such as dressage saddles. The supple leather, padded inner and double elastic make it a well-finished leather girth for everyday use, in sizes from pony to large horse.

About this dressage girth

The Perpignan is Premiere's leather dressage girth. It is made from "cow softy", a soft and supple cowhide. Beneath the leather is a 10 mm layer of foam that gives the girth a padded, soft feel. The shape is anatomical to leave the front legs room to move.

Both ends have elastic, so the girth gives a little on the left and right as you tighten it, and you can take it up gradually. The roller buckles glide easily over the billets. There is also a D-ring for attaching draw reins.

Within the Premiere range at Maddelin, the Perpignan sits between two other dressage girths. The Drancy has the same foam thickness but is made of synthetic leather with elastic on one side. The Artificial Fur has a synthetic sheepskin inner and is machine washable. If you want real leather with elastic on both sides, the Perpignan is the one to choose from Premiere.

Tighten alternately left and right, one hole at a time, so the elastic is stretched roughly the same amount on both sides. That keeps the saddle centred. Check again after a few minutes of walking.

A padded leather girth stays at its best if you remove sweat and sand after every ride. Let it dry slowly after a wet ride, never on a radiator, and give the leather a thin layer of conditioner regularly.

The Perpignan suits riders with a dressage saddle, or another saddle with long billets, who want an anatomical leather short girth with padding and elastic on both sides. The 40 cm size also makes it suitable for small ponies.

Buckle the girth to the long billets with the roller buckles and tighten gradually on both sides. Draw reins attach to the D-ring. No care instructions are specified for this girth, so after every ride remove sweat and sand with a damp cloth, let the leather dry at room temperature and condition it regularly.
