Brush the coat out thoroughly before you start. Sand and mud blunt a blade set faster than the number of clips itself does. Oil the blade set at the start and then regularly while clipping: that keeps the teeth cool and lets them run smoothly. After use, brush the loose hairs out from between the teeth before you put the machine away.

Do Heiniger screw-on blades fit this machine?
No. Screw-on blades such as the 31/15 sets belong to machines like the Xperience, the Xplorer and the Progress. The Saphir works exclusively with snap-on blade sets.

Why are two batteries included?
So you can charge one while you carry on clipping with the other. That is particularly useful on a full clip or with several animals on the same day.

Which cutting height do I choose for a winter clip?
For a crisp clip a #10 at 1.5 mm or a #15 at 1.2 mm is usually used. If you want to leave more hair, you end up with the #7 at 3.2 mm or the #5 at 6.3 mm.

What does the W on a blade set mean?
The W stands for wide: a broader cutting swathe. With it you cover more surface per pass, which gets on faster across a horse's body.

What is a red line blade set?
That is Heiniger's newer version of the #10, #15, #30 and #40. They have an optimised grind, are specially hardened and chrome finished, which limits heat build-up.

How do I maintain this clipper?
Clean the blade set after every use, oil it regularly while clipping and store the tool dry. Have blade sets sharpened as soon as they go through the coat more slowly.

Can I clip other animals with it as well?
Yes, thanks to the wide choice of cutting heights the machine can be used more broadly than on horses alone.
