Clothing that is too tight or too loose can restrict your freedom of movement and affect your aids. Always measure carefully and use our size charts as a guide.

Between two sizes? We usually recommend the larger size, unless stated otherwise on the product. In our experience, Italian brands (such as Animo, Cavalleria Toscana and Vestrum) tend to come up small.
Rugs
How to measure your horse: using a soft tape measure, measure from the centre of the chest, over the point of the shoulder, horizontally along the body to the furthest point of the hindquarters. This is the total length.
Always check the brand's size chart. A rug size in cm (for example 125 or 145) is the back length for most brands, and how it converts to feet differs per brand. Some brands, such as Bucas, also measure differently. That's why every rug comes with the brand's own size information.
The table below converts the total length from feet to cm. This conversion is the same for every brand.

Product Information
The Duca is a jumping boot that De Niro Boot Co introduced in 2026, and which Maddelin orders as a made-to-order boot. The boot has a back zip with elastic along its full length, a three-position spur rest and a leather sole with Vibram rubber. You choose with or without laces, a slim or a regular fit, the colour and your size.
About this riding boot
De Niro presents the Duca as a new jumping boot conceived as a versatile base. The model belongs to the jumping boots of the main De Niro line, not to Tricolore: the sole is the handmade De Niro sole with Vibram rubber, not a rubber sole as on the Tricolore models. De Niro makes its boots by hand in Casarano, Italy.
What sets the Duca apart
The leg and foot are in full-grain calf leather. At the back the boot closes with a zip, and an elastic band runs along the full length of that zip. At the bottom of the zip sits a zip guard with a three-position spur rest, so you can choose the height of your spurs without ordering anything extra. On top of that you make two choices with the Duca: the fit comes in a slim and a regular version, and you choose whether or not the boot is laced at the instep.
What you choose
- Fit: slim or regular. De Niro does not state how big the difference is in centimetres; discuss it when you are measured.
- Instep: with or without laces at the front.
- Leather and colour: a colour from the De Niro leather swatches.
- Sole finish: natural, black or brown.
- Size: foot size, leg height and calf width from the De Niro size guide. If your leg does not fit the guide, ask whether a version made to your measurements is possible; for that, De Niro takes several circumferences and lengths of lower leg and foot, separately for left and right.

Delivery time
The Duca is made after you order. Maddelin usually allows 6 to 8 weeks. De Niro offers accelerated production as an option, on request and without a fixed lead time.
Colour and competitions
As a jumping boot, the Duca is intended for the course and for training. In FEI showjumping competitions, black and brown boots are allowed, with at most one contrasting colour around the top, heel and/or toe; the national jumping rules additionally refer to those rules. The LRV asks for black riding boots in all disciplines, with or without a brown top band, and explicitly allows laced boots. If you ride under several federations, black works for all three. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly: check your federation's current rules before you settle on the colour.
