The downside of a short sleeve is obvious. If you ride in a class where white cuffs are asked for, it is of no use to you, and on a chilly morning your arm stays uncovered. Plain white is sensitive on top of that: sand, make-up on the collar and sweat marks under the arm show up at once, and without washing instructions from the manufacturer you work with what the label says.
